Guest guest
Sorry , I am completely the reverse - my own sounds drive me mad too. I have given up eating certain foods because the sound of my own eating repulses me. If I eat an apple I have to cut it into bits and take very small bites because my almost number one hate is people biting into apples and crunching them. I will only make toast with certain kinds of bread because the crusts on others sounds like bombs going off in my head when I eat them. My own voice gets on my nerves from time to time which is pretty hard when you are paid to stand up and lecture to groups. Flip flops - I am a culprit and even I get freaked by the sound of them but I hate wearing shoes and bare feet aren't appreciated in my work places. But it is getting better. Don't ask me why, maybe it is realising that I am not the only one, but things have definitely got better since I found this group. I have managed to sit through several meals without a glare, a glance or a remark (no, not even one) at my poor long suffering husband (another Abraham!) Bright blessings to all - Elise > > That is interesting, since I know when I hear myself on a recording, I hate the way I sound. Maybe I don't hear myself in the same way as I can hear others. That is also a possibility:-) > > > Re: Re: Footsteps anyone? The sounds that I make..... > > <<......She says she doesn't hear herself and it doesn't bother her. I do not have ssss myself, so if anyone could explain why they think their own noises don't bother them I'd appreciate it......>> > > Hi Robin, and everyone, > > The only way I can explain this after dealing with it for over 37 years is that " it's like hearing the sounds from the inside out " . To me, it sounds different when I do it than it does when someone else is doing it.....For example, hearing my own voice as I speak sounds totally different than it does when I hear my voice recorded and played back. It is the same with all of the other sounds that I make -- they are deadened somewhat, or duller somehow since my body muffles them to some degree...... > > I'm not sure if this makes any sense to anyone else.....hopefully others can relate???? > > -- Pam > > > > > --------------------------------- > Stay in the know. Guest guest
I had noticed the coincidence with the surname! i don't think it means there's a particular genetic link though! lol > > >I have managed to sit through several meals without a glare, a glance >or a remark (no, not even one) at my poor long suffering husband >(another Abraham!) > >Bright blessings to all - Elise > >
