Guest guest
I wonder how many of you have had a serum IgA test, and how many of you have a deficiency and what relationship this has to your chronic infections. It's a cheap test, about $35 the last time I checked. I think that the new finding (two studies in Nature Genetics, August 2005) of a defective gene in IgA Deficiency is exciting news for people with Selective IgA Deficiency, a disease in the same group as AIDS and the " bubble boy " syndrome. As far as I know, IgA Deficiency has not been linked to Lyme Disease, but I don't think anyone has ever looked for a link. It has been linked to infections of the mucous membranes lining the mouth, airways and digestive tract. The gene, encoding the protein TACI, is involved in switching between antibody types in antibody-producing white blood cells. http://hum-molgen.org/NewsGen/07-2005/msg13.html http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=27259 http://www.medindia.net/News/View_news_main.asp?t=gn & x=3947 Sue , Upstate New York
