Guest guest
Hi, can i suggest, not to fall into the trap i fell into when we first started ? Just because your child is lacking in a vit or min, does NOT mean, the solution is as easy as supplementing with that lacking substance. vits and mins work synergisticaly and unless you are very knowledgeable, (which you may be, i do not know), it is hard to know how one supp would interact with another. for example, my boy was deficient in a number of minerals - that did not mean i could just go and add zinc, mg, ca, selenium, etc - it was more complicated than that, i had to find out why he was deficient. He had a good diet, how come he was not absorbing/using these substances properly??? still hvent figured it out but getting there. I did, however, at one time supplement with up to 45 different supplements. My son was basically drinking sludge in his drinks, trying to fit it all in. Also his teeth suffered because of the acidity of some of the supps that he was horking back via his bottles. i cant imagine how all this gunk felt in his stomach. i thought i was doing good. do your research - oh, by the way, friend of mine had amino acids done and test results came back that her child had NO amino acids. none whatsoever. So you cant believe everything from a test. I recently had some pretty good nhs screenings done and my son's liver enzymes came back twice as low as the IWDL screens. depending on how long the samples hang around, temperature, etc, changes can occur. all i am saying is dont freak out, hold on and investigate every reason for giving your child any particular supplement. My boy only gets a few supps now. mb12, zinc, se, vit k2, vit D, mg, clo, multivit powder and a few others. He doesnt even get probiotics cause none of them ever made a bit of difference for him. just cause the " book " says this or that or the " protocol " does not mean its right for your child. Do you have a practitioner? get his/her advice. Its difficult interpreting aminos and organic acids if you havent the knowledge, but not impossible. But all vits and mins work with each other and supplementing just one, will have an effect on another. slow and easy wins the race > > Just had my 4 yr old organic acid profile back....everything abnormal! > > The back of the results is stating 32 different vits and supps to > prescribe him...is this normal? is this safe for a 4 yr old? how much > more will this cost? Guest guest
I would agree with bbrowne, when I first started I threw everything at in an effort to make up for deficiencies. In his case his gut was in such a dreadful state he could no more absorb anything from the supps than he could his food. I had to go right back to basics with food and intolerances and then gradually add in supplements very slowly watchiing for reactions. The supplements were quite literally going down the toilet. Guest guest
ask a doc to interpret. But what he needs won't, sadly, be dictated by either what seems a reasonable amount to give or what you can afford. some kids take dozens of supplements right through recovery and others are fine with a couple of well targeted things. It depends on what you need, not the experience of others per se. But I would never dose a child from the back of the report, you do need a doc. > > Just had my 4 yr old organic acid profile back....everything abnormal! > > The back of the results is stating 32 different vits and supps to > prescribe him...is this normal? is this safe for a 4 yr old? how much > more will this cost? Guest guest
Well at the risk of making things worse, I'm going to comment on what I said and why I said it, partly because I value Natasa for many reasons, partly because of glass houses and all that (my house being especially glassy lately). Anyway, Dr. Goldberg is one of the people in the biomed community who I've heard from many parents about. More specifically, many parents told me that he made promises he could not keep about recovering their kids, dismissed parental concerns and blamed regressions on the parents, and did not permit parents to use chelation (otherwise he wouldn't treat their kids). Now, I'm not saying he is wrong all the time. No one is. And I'm not saying he's the only doctor--not even the only autism doctor--to behave this way. I wish that were the case, actually. I do happen to think lots of people are idiots. However, I find this especially true for people who are in the position to know better. For example, doctors should know enough about immune systems and how vaccinations work to understand that vaxing a sick kid is a bad idea. A doctor doing this is an idiot. Would I call a parent who had their sick child vaxed an idiot? Never. That parent is simply trusting, which is sad, but much like most of us once were. Lots of doctors in the biomed community should know better about lots of stuff. But, somehow they choose not to. They refuse to look at the work of others to see if it holds water scientifically and clinically. They refuse to own up to their mistakes. They even refuse to listen to parents. Yet these same biomed doctors will criticize the mainstream docs for doing the exactly same thing. Once you know enough parents in the community, and they trust you to talk to you about stuff like this, you find out that this is sadly true far too often. So, I guess the above paragraph would be my definition of an idiot in the case of biomed for autism doctors. Having said all that, I've not researched Dr Goldberg in the last 1.5 years, and people can change. Perhaps he wouldn't meet my criteria anymore. I'm not sure. Also, I do regret writing what I wrote. I don't want to offend people. And I am sorry if I did. However, I should have either stated my opinion in a more helpful way, or not at all. Guest guest
Sorry guys, I should have never mentioned another Doctor on here....my fault! I'm just trying to grab the best suited from each theory to get what I can to help my boy. I wont let my boy have an SSRI but I would not let him have chelation either....why because I am terrified that it was medical model that caused his autism in the first place...giving antiobiotics and anti-fungles is stomach churning now! All I know is I have to do something as he is getting sicker by the month. I just wanted views on mega doses and lots of them....(vits and supps). I should know better as mentioned DAN on another site once and was warned I would be thrown off :0( I was only explaining where I was with him! These theories overlap so much, diet, vits and supps, O2 increase (HBOT or SSRIs) anti fungals, anti biotics, anti virals - I believe NIDS i good for i.e H6 virus and DAN for leaky gut etc...they all have their place depending on the child's needs and DAN is the closest for my son. God hope I dont get kicked out for 'sitting on the fence'....but thats my unstanding (ask me in 6 years not now 6 months into treating autism and I may talk more sense :0) Sandy and Tim I can't get that link to work...I will be on shoe string as my year funding from Caudwell is 85% swallowed up in 2 visits to DAN...it's all the testing...it's very expensive! Wont be having any more(tests) and paying for the next 10 months of DAN and meds now! But it was his first visit and it is always expensive at first, I understand that! > > > In a message dated 07/10/2008 16:38:49 GMT Daylight Time, mysuperteach@... writes: > > Lots of doctors in the biomed community should know better about lots > of stuff. I'm quarter way their then...lead tutor for son's ABA programme, trying to learn as much as I can on what is wrong what can I do...wish I could afford TA conferences etc but having had to give up work, single mum blah blah no way can afford....doing a PGCE (because its free instead of MSc ABA as £4000 hopefully it will help one day!) Would love to go into DAN as a nurse and I take blood etc but have not a clue bio med different to psychiatry...that why I post here all the time for help!!!! > > Just had my 4 yr old organic acid profile back....everything abnormal! > > The back of the results is stating 32 different vits and supps to > prescribe him...is this normal? is this safe for a 4 yr old? how much > more will this cost? Guest guest
Could not sleep as my boy's Comp Organic Test was so bad! Reading awlful things about the results and found a site where doctor???? replied re kidneys....I was told he had Nephrotic Syndrome. So I camped outside the Paed office (he is fab) and he saw me and looked at the results...glad I did this as he getting a Metobolic Biochemist to look at these results from DAN and referring my son to a Kidney Specialist! I feel lucky...as I know a lot of Paed etc out their refuse to acknowledge a DAN result etc. Hopefully I will get the bottom of why he is sick every 3 weeks for 3 weeks...and more importantly get the treatment to make him better! Working in Partnership for the best of my boy's health I feel grateful to have that at this moment in time! > > Just had my 4 yr old organic acid profile back....everything abnormal! > > The back of the results is stating 32 different vits and supps to > prescribe him...is this normal? is this safe for a 4 yr old? how much > more will this cost? Guest guest
--- Sorry to hear that you are having a worrying time at the moment. I had Jazzie's OAT done at the Breakspear and her results were bad too! I took them to the Geneticist who had repeated them with blood and urine's taken. They were sent off to a paediactric biochemist, and the results came back fine, no problems whatsoever. It does leave me wondering who to believe!! I hope your son's results have a similar outcome, and things are ok. Best Glynis In Autism-Biomedical-Europe , " ru345mins " wrote: > > Could not sleep as my boy's Comp Organic Test was so bad!
