I read in the last but one issue of Autism File (in the interview

with Bercow) that OFSTED are due to undertake a review of SEN

provision in 2009.

I recently contacted OFSTED for more information on this. I asked:

§ Where I could find out more information about the OFSTED

review of school SEN provision in 2009

§ What the terms of reference for the review will be and

whether consultation with parents and carers of children with SEN

will be built into the review process

Below is OFSTED's reply for those who are interested.

The government (DCSF) has asked HM Chief Inspector to undertake a

review of SEN provision in 2009/10. The government will consider

whether changes are necessary to the SEN Framework and information-

gathering arrangements in the light of HMCI's recommendations.

As yet further details have not been agreed about the 2009/10

review. The resource has not been allocated as it will be in the

09/10 budget. Ofsted has not had detailed discussions with the DCSF

and therefore the methodology and survey plan have not been

developed. Various reviews currently happening will inform the

survey planning for example, Bercow review and the current DCSF

innovative pilot schemes linked to the Lamb enquiry. In the past

surveys reviewing the effectiveness of provision for pupils with

learning difficulties and /or disabilities have all included

methodology to gain the views of parents.

There is currently no additional information available about the

survey.

End of message from OFSTED

In Oldham we got through to round 2 of bidding (with a project for

SEN Parent Advocates) for Lamb funding .......but fell at the final

hurdle :(:(

It will be interesting to see which projects did get funded.
