Hi -

H Buhner has written a comprehensive book called " Healing Lyme " ,

ISBN: 0-9708696-3-0

His considerations in tx lyme are: killing the spirochetes, immune

modulation, support, collagenous tissue support and symptomatic help.

He outlines an herbal protocol that includes herbs such as Eleutherococcus

for the acute onset, antispirochetals: andrographis, polygonum cuspidatum

(japanese knotweed),Neural and arthritic pain: stephania tetrandra,

anthriscus sylvestris (?).

Immune potentiators such as cats claw, astragalus. Liver support etc.

Then addresses symptomatic care with various other herbs and supplements.

This description , of course, is probably not too helpful to you. I would

get the book. also has a website: www.gaianstudies.org where he says

he'll post updates re: lyme tx.

Fairly inexpensive paperback and worth it.

Dear ,

I have treated a few cases of Lymes disease.I have noticed that a/b's alone

dont seem to clear the condition, especially the musculo-skeletal Sx. My

advice is to treat what u see and I would advise the pt to use an a/b with

the herbs , and to tell the pt the experience of herbalists treating Lymes.

The following is an Rx I have found successful , not alone for Lymes , but

forms the basis for all my tropical GIT infection Rx's and prophyllaxis

Rx's, and against a wide range of bacterial and protozal infections

Art. annua , Art abs , Art dracunculus , Tanacetum parthenium , Calendula 90

, Shitake , Boswellia , Althaea rad , Hydrastis can , guaicum off , Allium

sativum , Azadiracta indica , Succissa pratensis , Thuja occ , Oreganum

vulgare , Geum urbanum , Thymus vulg , Carduus mar , Cinnamomum zey ,

Berberis vulg , Zingiber off , Uncaria tomentosa ,

Sig , 5 mls 6 times per day , and do what u have to do to get the dosage

into the pt . Continue for 6 weeks at this dosage , and 5 mls tds for at

least another 6 weeks .

Hope this helps ,

Thank you Emmett for this.

Some of these herbs I don't know. Would you mind clarifying for me what the

common name is for succissa pratensis and Azadiracta indica? And where you get

them from. Also, when they finish taking the herbs, how do you know they have

cleared the infection? do you just go by the clinical picture, or what tests

would you do. I read that the spirochete changes into dormant cystic form when

under threat from the immune system, and can reactivate throughout that persons

life intermittently. I presume you just treat again as a when you need to?

Many thanks again

best wishes

Azad. indica is Neem , and s. pratense is Devils Bit Scabious , which has an

old reputation in Ireland for " curing " everything .It is not on any of the

suppliers lists . I make it myself. Not needed anyway .Get Neem from Pukka .

The 3 months is needed to mop up the infection, and to deal with

re-emergence. It seems to work as no recurrence has occured in my pts .If

there is recurrence , repeat the procedure again .

Dear Emmett,

I like the sound of 'getting well and staying well' after Lyme infection. How

soon after onset of infection did you begin treating these patients?

I have one patient with (probably) Lyme but she wasn't diagnosed til about

10yrs after her problems started and i didn't see her til several years after

this. Would same treatment principles still apply?

This lady has major CFIDS and multiple chemical sensitivities and can't take

antibiotics even if she wanted to. I use miniscule drop doses of simples to

moderately good effect, but if she increases doses even slightly she gets too

much Sx exacerbation to handle.

Dear Jay,

Time gap varied. 2 pts were treated quickly after Dx , and both recovered

..Another 15 yrs post acquiring , and is making progress .Chronic Fat Syn is

always a feature of untreated Lymes , and the current pt has this . Also

depression . Diagnosis can be difficult , and a lot of false negs occur .I

personally advise pts to take the a/b's , and herbs also , and explain this

to the pt , and the need for herbs , to deal with the systemic effects of

lymes , to treat the s/e of the a/b's , and to treat the Lymes herbally

..The same basic strategy would apply , irrespective of onset time , but

taking account of the physiological territory of each pt , as u are doing .

Again , follow the basic law of Ayurveda , " treat what you see " .

Lymes disease incidence has increased a lot in recent years , esp in America

..Sx quickly follow an insect bite , and most pts can remember the particular

bite that caused the onset , which I find interesting , esp when they get

lots of bites , so why do they remember the Lyme bite , and they are quite

specific re time and location on the body .!!!

Re this pt Jay . Could you specify the Sx she gets when u step up the dose ?

..This may shed more light on the case ?
