Guest guest
They r draining some fluid today. Tina Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Tina I hope your Dad is comfortable now. It is so hard on everyone when someone they love goes through so much. You want to do everything you can to help them and keep them out of pain. Most all things have to be placed in our creator's hand. We realize our limitations in life by going through this. Your Dad is truly blest to have a daughter who really loves and cares about him. Take it easy and be with him as much as you can. That is more important now than trying to keep him alive. Sometimes we can become so wrapped up in death and saving lives, we forget that the spirit of the person going through this needs to know how much our heart cares more than what we can do for them. I wish you the best..please let us know how he and you are both doing.

Guest guest
Ammonia is but one toxin. tyhe problem with ammonia is that veinous blood is not as acurate a meaurement as arterial blood, and they usually dont draw arterial blood. Guest guest
Hi family! Well, I came back home yesterday as my 3 year old was sick and my dad seemed stable. Yesterday the nurses gave my mom a list of nursing homes to check out. They said he will need physical therapy 3 times a day and with him not walking, she is unable to take care of him by herself. The kidney doctor was in today and said his kidneys were failing. He put it very bluntly wehn he told her that he would probably never go home again. Personally, I don't see how his body is still functioning. He has alcohol cirrhosis and has smoked for over 50 years (when he had heart surgery 5 years ago they saw early signs of emphasema). In addition to those 2, he has prostate cancer (gleason score was an 8), a brain aneyurism, has had heart bypass surgery and then a heart attack and stent. Now he's in the hospital with pneumonia and blood clots in his legs. I just don't know how long he can hang on with all of these issues. If he goes, at least I am at peace that I have spent the last 3 days by his side, holding his hand, feeding him and making sure he's comfortable and warm. Thanks everyone for all your support. Guest guest
It sounds like your dad has been through so much . You are doing all you can for him at this time and by just being there beside him I'm sure it gives him peace. My husbands kidneys were failing too in the hospital and they didn't think he would make it through the night but they started to function again after 2 weeks in the hospital. The doctors were surprised he made it and had told us to say out goodbyes. He could only walk maybe 4 ft from his bed with a walker when we left the hospital the last day but now he can get around with a cane in the house some. Just take it day by day and hope to see some improvement but know too not to expect much. He's not able to have a transplant as his other organs are too weak. He's had quadruple bypass about 3 years ago. still smoking!!! Has stopped drinking in April when they told him he had the cirrossis but too late. I know he knows he's not in good shape but he still has hopes too and keeps wondering when things will turn around and he will feel better again! Breaks my heart as I know they porbably never will. ________________________________ To: livercirrhosissupport Sent: Saturday, November 22, 2008 4:13:58 PM Subject: RE: Tina Hi family! Guest guest
Hi Tina! I am so sorry your baby is sick but I am so happy you got to spend the last few days with your Mom and your stepdad. I know he is facing a lot of issues, but it seems as if your Mom is doing well with everything. I pray he will not suffer and that, when the time comes, it will be a peaceful crossing and that your Mom will be at rest with the crossing. I know none of look forward to giving up our loved ones, but I have often said I would rather give up the ones I love than see them suffer. Take care of the baby and yourself. I am praying for all of you that the Lord will meet your needs and grant healing, understanding that for some, healing means leaving our body behind. Hugs............ Guest guest
Thanks Diane. My husband, daughter and i are going up this afternoon so my husband can see him. Then we are going to take mom to dinner and let her spend some time with Sera (thought it might cheer her up). The doctors said that his pneumonia hasn't gotten any better despite the antibiotics and respiratory therapy. Today he is very unresponsive and they have called hospice in to talk to mom tomorrow. Bill will bring Sera back with him tonight and I will stay there with her. I will keep you posted. Guest guest
Thanks diane. Sera & Bill came to the hospital tonight and then they came back to the house and had dinner. I think having a wild 3 year old running around the house helped her tremendously. I am definitely glad I got my treatment last week b/c the stress would certainly have thrown me for a loop. I appreciate all of you so much and just wish I had joined earlier for the wonderful support. Guest guest
I'm so sorry. You make a good choice when you choose hospice. Inpatient hospice is the place to be. Thats where I want to be when I go. The entire philosophy if hospice nursing is very different from curative care. They are very equipped to deal with passing on as a part of life , not the ultimate enemy. May God be with you and your family in this difficult time. Guest guest
I have to agree that hospice is a great thing! I worked for Hospice until I had my daughter and she was born with all her medical problems. I loved my job, I think the best part about it was being there for the families and just sitting at times and listning to them tell me about there loved one. I did in-home hospice care. I was a CNA--so I really got to know the families since I was in the home for long periods a day. I often wonder if I was meant to go into that line of work since having my daughter and being told she had a terminal illness. Hope everyone has a great evening! Guest guest
Everyone we have spoken to has been so wonderful. I just came back to my moms to feed her puppies and open some windows to get some fresh air in the house as my dad has smoked in the house the past few weeks. Guest guest
Tina, I am so glad his sister came. I know it will make all the difference for the both of them, as well as make your mom feel better. I'm also very happy that everyone has been so helpful to you all. I find that, in these circumstances, people are usually bending over backwards to be helpful and to make things as easy on the family as possible. Be careful traveling back and forth and take care of yourself. Continuing to pray! Hugs....... Guest guest
Thanks Diane. I'm staying up her with her as long as she needs me, so travel is minimal. Until she met Ed, she had been a single mom and we have had a 'best friend' bond all my life. I've cuddled up in bed with her and the dogs everynight.....last night we fell asleep holding hands. I am so honored to be here for her. She really is an amazing woman and I hate that she is losing the man she loves so dearly. Hugs....... I just came back to my moms to feed her puppies and open some windows to get some fresh air in the house as my dad has smoked in the house the past few weeks. My dad's sister flew in today and will stay for a while. They got into a tiff a few months ago because she wanted him to get help for his drinking and he hasn't spoken to her since. Although he has been holding her hand all afternoon and I think that has helped them both. They should be transporting him to hospice now and I will meet them over there.
