Guest guest
Dear More is left unsaid on these eBay sites than is said. Mostly it seems that the vendors don't know about the capacity of their instrument. Good brand stuff, Nikon , Olympus, Leitz, Wild, etc will have excellent resolution. The only ones that may need to be checked would be the modern low priced student microscopes. My Nikon SK-E apparently can be fitted with fluorescence optics but I haven't followed it up. I paid only a few dollars at a university garage sale a few years back but the instrument is a top research grade item from the 60's with full range of eyepieces. I feel diddled in some ways as I wanted a trinoc head to mount a camera and a well meaning person decided I didn't need the trinoc which was a Leitz ( Bugger!!) One of the scope on eBay last night was the next model along from mine with a reserve of %1 and no bids. It appeared to be virtually unused. There were others with similar or comparable optics for $ 50. Worth a look. If you want good optics , look for Nomarski Interference Contrast which is top of the line for looking at unstained material . Failing winning the ottery you may pick up phase contrast optics for a Nikon or Olympus for bugger all. Find a university biology department that still has an aged senior lab technician. Pick his brains and you may be surprised at what is possible. Unis rarely throw anything away in this line Regards Windsor [infections] Re: microscopes , how much are you thinking of shelling out? I have very little knowledge of optics, but what seemed odd to me when looking at the more discount stuff, was resolution was not specified. The res seems like the key number to have so I found that odd. My dream is to get a fluorescence scope, but it probably aint gonna happen.> Dear All> For those of you who are contemplating doing some blood smear microscopy there are some extraordinarily cheap microscopes available on eBay, no reserve and few bidders. > Regards> Windsor
