So odd how two people can look at the same article and find entirely different messages. I would have been more impressed with your critique if you had mentioned certain specific things you disagreed with, but then it sounds so much more scholarly when you generalize with terms like "pseudo-psychology" and "quasi-buddhist crap" I feel very sure that you are in an excellent position to feel sorry for Steve and probably anyone else not up to your excellent standards. One assumes any demons you may ever have had have been effectively banished. So nice for you.

Really sad, pathetic latest entry from Steve

His first word is "Eating". It gets worse from there. Paragraph after paragraph of poorly written pseudo-psychology and excuses for why fat people abuse food. Even more vapid quasi-buddhist crap. The tired old use of "we" instead of "me" when making excuses for HIMSELF eating fast food and engaging in horrid eating habits.He has learned NOTHING. I feel a deep sadness for him.

THANK-YOU!!! , you could not have put my thoughts into better

words (unless using words that should not be posted here)!

Ever notice how CERTAIN PEOPLE (and by that I mean most especially

solid_white_tuna)do not realize that by pointing out others " short

commings " they are actually just drawing more attention to their own?

Then again, some people feel negative attention is better then none

at all. So sad.

I have learned at least four things, one is that I like to write about

what I feel and that is what I do for me, two is that angry people

will find fault with whatever I do, and three is that the most hateful

and mean people never use there real names, and four, they complain

but read every word that I write, more so than anyone else.

I agree with you about seeing different things, . I sometimes get the comments on Steve's posts before I get the chance to read the actual post. Then I go to see what the fuss is about and I invariable see something totally different then the complainer does! I felt Steve had some important observations and some very good viewpoint statements. I always enjoy his posts even when I do not agree with all of the comments he makes. But his life is his and mine is mine. I do not know anyone who will agree 100% with another person. And as has been the theme of all this from the beginning, each one has to find his own life answers in the way that works for him/her. Steve is doing that. And we are privileged to be able to share in following his path to his own success.

Shirley, just go to www.thefatmanwalking.com and you will see Steve's

journal. To briefly sum it up, Steve is expounding on the idea that

hard work often pays off after time, but laziness always pays off now!

Fair enough. Steve says " The accepted total daily consumption of

calories is approximately 2000 a day, but you don't even need to try

hard to exceed that, in fact, you can get half in just one drive-thru

bag and you can get that bag way too often, as much as you please. "

Okay, so he spends 13 months walking coast to coast, consulting with

experts about weight loss, and even spent a MONTH living with a personal

trainer and nutrition expert. Yet after it's all said and done and he's

back home, the only food choices he feels he has are the drive-thru at

Mcs??

Steve, may I ask, how much of the weight you lost on your walk have you

already regained? And a related question if I may...how many times per

week are you eating fast food?

I agree, Jane. Neither do I always agree with Steve. This is his journey, and we go along by invitation. To be rude about differences in opinion, is in my mind, a reflection on the writer and a hint at personal misgivings or fears, rather than being about the object of the criticism. Steve seems to be struggling to understand much, in this latest journal entry. I think I know the little thing that is missing, but as this is his journey, he best finds it on his own. Besides I could be wrong - right for me, wrong for him, so will watch and root for, pray for and believe in his tenacity and sincerity.

See, this is what has people shaking their heads. This was the same

excuse he used for eating all that junk food on the road. And once

again, it just doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

Just off the top of my head, here is a list of cheap, nutritious foods a

person can keep in their room/pack/whatever that require neither

refrigeration or cooking:

canned tuna

low-fat peanut butter

whole wheat bread

instant hummus

instant beans

fat-free pretzels

all kinds of fruit, fresh and dried

granola

V8 juice

Plus, living in a big city, there are plenty of markets and such with

fresh veggies, even pre-washed bagged salads that can be eaten the same

day, no chilling really required.

Foods that only need hot water out of the tap include:

soup mixes

instant oatmeal

quick pastas

There ARE alternatives to living on fast food, even with no fridge or

stove!

To answer your question about fast food - I eat Chicen from

Mcs about twice a week. I eat at subway and Quiznos once or

twice a month but rarely anything other than that. I mostly eat at

home and at two local restaurants which offer heathy menus.

When I wrote that journal I was speaking in general terms about

healthy food availability and the difficulties of too many bad

choices being available, in short, defining the weakness common to

this affliction.

Primarily I was trying to express what I feel are the emotional

difficulties that lead people (like me) to find ways to justify bad

choices. If you have read my journals in the past then you will know

that I have said that losing weight is not about one meal or even

about a few, instead it is about lifestyle. Changing lifestyle does

not happen over night, like gaining the weight, it takes time to

happen. So the road to recovery is a slow steady series of

behavioral changes, each being built upon the success of the last

and all being dependant on the success of being a happier person.

I think that we seriously underestimate the importance of mental

health in this epidemic and if by showing you my emotions, turmoil

and personal thoughts I help one person, then for me there is no

greater personal contribution that I can make.

Thanks for answering that. As you may recall, what I asked you the other

day was " Steve, may I ask, how much of the weight you lost on your walk

have you already regained? And a related question if I may...how many

times per week are you eating fast food? " It looks like you picked out

one of the questions to answer, but overlooked the other.

A few weeks ago, you responded to another member's questions with two

statements; that you will answer any direct questions asked of you here

and also that you do not engage in sidestepping. I think my question was

quite clearly and directly asked, so... can you tell us how much of the

weight you lost on your trip have been regained to date?

Sorry for mis-stepping your question. I did not realize how very,

very important the answer was to you. So here goes for what seems

like the 100th time I have answered this same question. I weigh 342

lbs. In case you are unclear or that I might be hiding that secret I

will state it one more time 342 lbs. Now please lets move your

obsession to another subject.
