Guest guest
Last night we had three other couples over for dinner. We invited couples that knew we cooked things a little differently but didn't quite know what it was we did. I gave each of them a recipe out of the book and asked that they make it and bring it for the dinner. Then I fixed several things out of the book as well. There were eight adults and eight kids ranging from 6 - 11. Here's what we had... Raw oysters Cucumber Yoghurt Dip page 173 Roasted Eggplant Dip page 173 Baked tortillas page 519 Lettuce salad with orange dressing page 134 French onion soup page 200 Eggplant torta page 444 (I forgot to pour the eggs over the top, but we didn't miss them one bit) Yogurt Herb bread with a few alterations previously forwarded page 484 Ecuadorian Quinoa Casserole page 475 Carrot cake page 569 Everything was absolutely delicious! I'm not sure I would jump to make the orange dressing again but everything else was wonderful!!! Everyone had a wonderful time. It was interesting as there was one little girl that eats nothing but white noodles with butter and balloon bread. Her mother always cooks separately for her as she refuses to eat what the rest of the family is having. We had the kids sitting at a table in one room and the adults at a table in another room. I dished this little girls plate up and the mother informed me her daughter wouldn't eat any of it. I handed the child her plate along with the other kids and we exited the room to sit down and enjoy our meals as well. Needless to say, the little girl ate just about everything on her plate and told my daughter that was the best lasagna she had every had. So from a 9 year olds point of view, the eggplant torta tastes just like lasagna. One of them now has the cookbook, and the other two have asked me to pick them up copies of it so we can all do it again. My husband about had heart failure when he realized I was giving them each a recipe and requesting they make that particular item using all organic ingredients. But the net result was positive and they now have a little better idea as to why I cook and do the things I do and that the end result can be delicious and fun to make!
