Guest guest
Interesting observation, Steve, and a more adult reaction than mine. W Re: Really sad, pathetic latest entry from Steve I have learned at least four things, one is that I like to write about what I feel and that is what I do for me, two is that angry people will find fault with whatever I do, and three is that the most hateful and mean people never use there real names, and four, they complain but read every word that I write, more so than anyone else.>> His first word is "Eating". It gets worse from there. Paragraph after > paragraph of poorly written pseudo-psychology and excuses for why fat > people abuse food. Even more vapid quasi-buddhist crap. The tired old > use of "we" instead of "me" when making excuses for HIMSELF eating fast > food and engaging in horrid eating habits.> > He has learned NOTHING. I feel a deep sadness for him.>
Guest guest
Good Morning Steve and All: Steve you are so right about what you said. Keep you head up and I pray that you will be able to work things out and make your life BETTER than it has EVER BEEN for both you and for your kids. Don't give up - I haven't read your latest entry in the journal I never can remember how to get in there now. Old age forgetfulness I guess - HA. Guest guest
You know I did not get to see the article. So maybe I am missing something here. When I clicked the link it said it was unavailable. But I reread Steve's post and do not see where he says he is eating fast food. I read a philosophical discussion of why people eat the way they do. What did I miss? I have read it 3 times and still seem to be missing it! Jane
Guest guest
If you read the article that I and I believe Amber forwarded to the group, you would know that Steve has said he's regained approximately 20 of the pounds back. Unfortunately, he has not much choice but to eat fast food, when again if you read the article you would see he lives in a flea-bag hotel which is barely a step above a homeless shelter and I doubt he can even have a hot plate there so he goes where he can afford to eat or where people will buy him food. Now I won't weigh in (excuse the pun) on what led him to be in a flea-bag hotel. I'm not excusing all things Steve has done, but if you really read all the posts, you would have an answer to your questions when you know that the majority of people on this list will defend him to the hilt. > "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow> in Australia." ( Schultz) Re: Really sad, pathetic latest entry from Steve >I would have been more impressed with your critique if you had >mentioned certain specific things you disagreed withFair enough. Steve says " The accepted total daily consumption of calories is approximately 2000 a day, but you don't even need to try hard to exceed that, in fact, you can get half in just one drive-thru bag and you can get that bag way too often, as much as you please."Okay, so he spends 13 months walking coast to coast, consulting with experts about weight loss, and even spent a MONTH living with a personal trainer and nutrition expert. Yet after it's all said and done and he's back home, the only food choices he feels he has are the drive-thru at Mcs?? Steve, may I ask, how much of the weight you lost on your walk have you already regained? And a related question if I may...how many times per week are you eating fast food? Guest guest
I cannot speak for Steve, but I guarantee you that I could gain plenty on bread (whole wheat or otherwise), hummus, beans, pretzels, dried fruit and granola. Low fat, yes, but loaded with sugars and carbohydrates. I, for one, count calories, not carbs, fat grams, etc, and the only things with significant portein were the beans and peanut butter (maybe hummus) and then not a complete protein. Better than fast food? Maybe, maybe not depending your choices at FF. A good diet? Not in my book. Just with Mcs, one could get an Egg McMuffin (290cal) coffee with artificial sweetener (0 cal), 12 oz orange juice (140) total (430) for breakfast. A hamburger happy meal (260) with apple dippers instead of fries (100) and diet drink ( 360 calories) for lunch, and a Ceasar Salad with chicken (310) and Ceasar dressing (190) calories (500 calories) for supper. A whole day's food for less than 1300 calories, much less than Steve's basic calorie expenditure, even if he did not exercise. so even at a fast food place, it is all in the choices. Plus probably more balanced than the items you suggest. Perfectly balanced diets neither way, but thats not really the argument here, is it? Guest guest
As I mentioned before...the rents in Ca are outrageous. Even here in the desert, small 1 bdrm apts are easily $800 a month. What really hit me most about the article was how sad the kids looked. Could be for a number of reasons but sad to see. Guest guest
Most all fast food places offer salad, and you can get grilled chicken at many with a lettuce wrap.It all sounds like some bad depression is going on, and he needs to make changes. He doesn't seem to be in a healthy place emotionally or physically right now.He has a lot to sort through right now and not in ideal circumstances for it.It seems he is in a type of survival mode, and not living...that has to be hard. Guest guest
That picture of the kids was taken early on in his journey when he walked across the USA. It wasn't a recent picture. I am guessing that picture was taken somewhere between AZ and Texas. But I don't know for sure. He isn't in a apt. I think he is in a short term place.. unsure on that also. I agree it is sad.. I feel bad for all who hit a hard time in there lives and when they have to worry from day to day how they will eat and where they will live Makes me realize how truly blessed my life is. Guest guest
The article says it's not an apartment. It's called a hotel, but don't confuse it with the Ritz, heck don't confuse it with the Red Roof Inn. There are only 2 steps lower on the housing scale than where Steve is living right now, a homeless shelter and the street. I've been by the places like where Steve lives, and I've probably walked by the place he does live, as I used to live and work in Downtown S.D. I wish him luck in getting back on his feet, but not sure his current plan is a smart one, but it's his life to lead. > "Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. Guest guest
How many times does a question need to be asked and answered? It has been established Steve has regained 22 pounds. If you read everything that comes through this site you do not have to keep asking the same repetitive questions! Jane
