This is interesting because the same thing happens in treated syphilis

in humans. Organisms remain but do not cause disease. This is

absolutely mystifying because the infective dose of Tp in humans is

under 10 organisms. One would think that any organisms remaining after

treatment would come roaring back, but they usually dont. Acquired

immunity could definitely be a factor in this phenomenon but syphilis

immunization accords very little protection in the rabbit (also in the

human I think).
