Guest guest
My thyroid was a bit low. My primary care physician started me out at 25mcg, then to 50 mcg, then to 75 mcg, then back to 25mcg, then took me off altogether. I asked her why my thyroid hormone kept fluctuating like that and she said that happens with lots of her hepatitis C patients. Colleen Jan Holman wrote: I happened on this article which indicates there may be a link between hypothyroidism and liver disease of the fatty tissue type/cirrhosis. http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2004/sep2004_report_thyroid_01.htm I have hypothyroidism, it went undiagnosed for years, then I was under medicated for a long period of time after it was diagnosed. Is anyone else here being treated for hypothyroidism? For the last few years, it has seemed that just as I was beginning to feel as if I had some energy my doctor at the time (more than one of them) has decreased my medication. I still have a lot of the symptoms of low thyroid but they could be attributed to other conditions too. Jan -- Jan H
Guest guest
My thyroid has been low but my doctor has refused to address it. I do not know why. I sure have to micro manage. I would hate to be my doctor. I would bug the heck out of me. Re: connection between liver disease/cirrhosis and hypothyroidism? My thyroid was a bit low. Guest guest
I was as high as 200 for a little bit, for a long time I was on 175 or 150. Now I am down to 88 mcg levothyroxin. I have been on Synthoid, and levoxyl. I don't like it when they keep changing from one to the other because they aren't exactly the same. And I don't have hep C. I am wondering from what that article said if having untreated hypothyroidism for years and undertreated for quite awhile could have caused my cirrhosis. Have an appt. with my pcp tomorrow. Will take the article with me and talk to her about it. I seem to just start feeling as if I have some energy, or at least I used to, and then she would do some blood work and decrease my thyroid meds. Jan H > > My thyroid was a bit low. Guest guest
I have never heard of thyroid probems being able to cause cirrhosis. Guest guest
Wow Jan, I have hypothyroid too.. If I miss that pill, Im fatiqued for at least 2 days. The new gastro felt bumps on my thyroid and told me to get a new pcp, so I see him on Nov 6. I am hoping that my fatique is related to thyroid, because at least you can manage that. The bloodwork I did yesterday had the thyroid test included so Ill know by the first. Its interesting that you found an article on the link between it an liver disease. I will read it later as Im still too sick to spend much time out of bed. Guest guest
Bobby, I had to laugh about you bugging the heck out of yourself if you were your doctor. Im the same way, and I know they dont like it, but hey I really dont care.. Do I can if my mechanic likes me, as long as he gets the car fixed. Get that doctor of yours to address they thyroid cause it really can fatique you. In the early years of the disease, I could miss a pill for a couple of days and no problem, but now I dont dare.. Need it to function at all. God Bless, Debra--- In livercirrhosissupport , Bob Aragon wrote: > > My thyroid has been low but my doctor has refused to address it. I do not know why. Guest guest
This is from the same lady. Be sure to get your liver checked. I have bought The Liver Cleansing Book. Sub-title: Love Your Liver and Live Longer. I am almost totally convinced that you need to be your own doctor! Ma Cob is fire proof, but our society outlaws it. http://people.tribe.net/raycirino/photos/3352a8b8-0373-47dc-8728-6feaf3716e3 c Re: connection between liver disease/cirrhosis and hypothyroidism? Guest guest
Jan, Id like to get in on this challenge too. I will go back to the First Place diet which is an exchange diet like the diabetic diet and close to weight watchers. But on those diets potatoes are considered breads and not vegetables. Most of their calories come from simple carbs, Im looking forward to losing weight too. I have a treadmill which I love to do with music and candles and just sort of zone out, but since this fatique thing has come on, I havent had the inclination to get back to it. Maybe Ill try to let it down tomorrow and put away the clothes laid across the top of it and at least do 10 minutes to start. Im feeling much better, but am almost afraid to get too excited about that. Was told this morning at church there is a nasty bug going around that makes you nauceous and fatiqued.. Oh Great! I do have a lot of recipes and ones that I have adapted to fit the diet. I have found that a good pair of kitchen shears is great for trimming all the fat. I too do not count fresh veggies, eat as much as I can. But then I eat a lot of fruit too and that has a lot of sugar.. I know I feel much better when I eat right.
