Guest guest
I love the whole grain oatmeal made by Roman Meal. Hugs, in Texas (TnT) Give yourself a real pay raise. GET OUT OF DEBT! When I used to eat those little packets, not onlydid I get too many calories and sugar from it, I was always still sohungry. Cooking quick oats only takes one minute once the waterboils. You can also put it in the microwave, so it doesn't take long.So much more filling and you can put lots of things in it. I use ateaspoon of honey. I've seen people put in chopped apples, raisinsand/or bananas, walnuts, brown sugar (can't get carried away with thesugar though, incl honey). Jam sounds like a great idea. It's so much better for you. There's so many pluses with real oatmealand no real ones with the instant stuff.ElaineOn 9/13/06, solid_white_tuna <solid_white_tuna> wrote:> I just googled "calories in jam", one link lists a tbsp of strawberry> jam as 50 calories. Guest guest
Wasn't for me, thought it might be good alternative for the kids.LOL I did not realize there is so much junk in the instant. Need to rethink all of this now. Thank you Leena Re: Tammy >> Oh I almost forgot. If you had a teaspoon of jam to regular >oatmeal would the calories be about the same. Guest guest
Hi, Thank you for all that info. I could understand what I was reading--lol. Some of the things i have looked up on the net i was just so lost. I want to thank everyone for there warm welcomes---it feels so good to be here and to hear your stories and see how you all manage. As I said before my daughter is 9 and is special needs, so I have been dealing with insurance, SSI, every type of doc you can think of since she has been born. I have an awesome support system here at home. ( well i do now--lol) My husband and I split up a couple of years ago and our divorce was final 2 weeks ago. (no support from him with her or the boys back then). I have an awesome boyfriend who pitches in and does it all. He does my daughters feeding tube, changes her, plays with the boys when I am wiped out, takes care of the house all that good stuff. My sister is my best friend and is around lots. I have a big family and we are very close. They help out with the kids too. My ex hubby takes the kids every other weekend--he has stepped up since our split and does take the kids when he is suppose too. My mom, sister and I own a daycare center. I don't go in that much anymore since the kids are carrying so many germs this time of year and i really dont want to catch anything. We have a amazing staff and my sister runs the daycare now. So I feel very blessed when it comes to the people around me and I know I am extremely lucky to have them. Our transplant team told us that 1/3 of the patients they have had...they never found out the true cause for the liver cirrhosing. Usually, the first condition of cirrhosis is tiredness. This may be because the other organs of the body are trying to help with the functions that the liver can not do well and because of toxins going out into the blood from the liver since they are not getting converted to a non toxic form as well now. Then usually comes yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes because the body isn't handling the bilirubin well of converting it to a non soluble form to flow with the bile out of the liver and it stays in the skin and because it is a pigment, it causes this coloring. It can also color the urine darker in color. Because it doesn't reach the intestines now with the bile, the stools can appear whiter in color and float on top of the water. You may notice your platelet dropping down. When the liver becomes enlarged because of inflammation that happens with cirrhosis, then the spleen also enlarges and can trap the platelets there so they are not released into the blood and even destroy them early on. It is very easy for a cirrhosis patient to bleed. This is because the liver can no longer produce the factors in the amount it once did that helps the blood to clot. The patient has to be very careful about getting hurt or cut. If you do, apply pressure to the area and hold it for some time to see if the bleeding will stop. If you happen to throw up any blood or bleed where you do not stop...it is an emergency.. go to the ER. You may have develops varies in the esophagus and they will have to band them to stop the bleeding. Please tell me that you have others there that can help you. I feel so bad that you are trying to take care of a little one at this time.
Guest guest
Abijann, You have so much knowledge. Thanks, Lyncia In life family and friends take us on all kinds of adventures, God helps us choose our path....Enjoy your journey! From: abijann <no_reply > Subject: Tammy To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Sunday, November 23, 2008, 10:27 PM It is quite " normal " or should I say that for someone with this disease, that being tired is one of the very first signs of cirrhosis. Your body now is trying to heal, it is also trying to work harder to compensate for the liver cells not functioning well. You now have toxins in your blood, also, because the liver can not handle them appropriately like it used to and the kidneys are working harder filtering the blood to try and remove them. There is the starting of muscle wasting also in the body because the protein levels start to drop, like albumin. Your body is trying to find homeostasis. .. that means it is trying to find ways to stablize and keep the body functioning as well as possible. When you need to rest, you should. If you could have someone help you at home so you can take a break, that would be great. You might not have this now, but you may in the future: People who end up with encephalopathy tend to have a unreal difference in when they sleep. In other words, as an example: they may sleep during the day for 10 minutes and wake up and do this on and off all day long...and then be unable to sleep at night. Your body needs to rest whenever it tells you even if it is just 10 minutes at a time. Encephalopathy is caused because certain toxins pass the blood brain barrier and go into the brain. It causes problems with the memory and thinking of the patient and they have changes in sleep patterns also. Any rest you get will help the body stay stronger. Guest guest
I always ask for pain medicine. hehehhehehehe I like versaid because I sleep so well. ....which is unusual with liver disearse sometimes. Lyncia In life family and friends take us on all kinds of adventures, God helps us choose our path....Enjoy your journey! From: abijann <no_reply > Subject: Tammy To: livercirrhosissupport Date: Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 8:01 PM This is a test that is done on most patients who have this disease. Cancer can develop in the liver, either it comes from outside the liver to the liver, or it starts in the liver and then goes to other organs. They have to determine this, cause if the cancer does spread and isn't isolated in the liver only...it could mean that they won't have the transplant. Yes, they consider a patient with cirrhosis a higher risk for getting cancer there. I Know how you feel about being poked so many times. They did that to me when I had a kidney stone that blocked my entire kidney and the kidney was swelling up inside of me. They finally brought the doctor in to insert the IV needle. That's after I told them I had had enough. Everyone has to learn how to do that, but people don't like being ginnie pigs...I know I don't. They got ice packs and put on my arms all over the place. That is because they were trying to put die into my arms and it was getting on my skin area. I had no pain medication, that were allowed to be given to me, until they got all the tests results. That doctor did the test himself, then, and took me upstairs back to the ER and then gave me the injection of pain medication himself. I guess the nurses thought I needed more torture on top of all the pain. I laughed, cause he didn't get me to sign the papers for all that until after I had had all that done. I could of refused to sign then and they couldn't of done anything about being paid then. Even the pain medication only lessen the pain a little, at least it was some relief. I had to have a stent put in until I went to another hospital to have the lithotripsy done. Sorry to hear that you were put through that torture also. It definitely is no picnic, especially when they are placing it in the back of your hand.
