we used calendula cream on cast sores. it heals them well. you can typically find it in health food stores, but some chain drugstores are starting to carry it.I like California Baby brand, but Wedella is also good, and more readily available.I don't have any advice regarding the floppy issue.LizSubject: QuestionTo: infantile_scoliosis Date: Thursday, April 9, 2009, 4:22 PM

Just chiming in, I do like Weleda brand calendula cream, you can buy it at health food stores (like Whole Foods) or online. Everyone has said that children are floppy or wobbly on the day the cast is taken off, they're used to the feeling of it being on, and it must feel strange (like a turtle without its shell) at first!

Well the ortho who cut her cast today was no help, he dose not belive in what we

are doing. Talked to our pediatrician they told us we may never fully know what

your daughter has wrong with her. She said all we can do is treat the symptoms

we see, and provide the services she needs. Kind of disappointing. I really

which I had the answers. All I know is she has a heart defect, some sort of

sensory problem, and scoliosis, or PT said sound like a syndrome. Not much

answears, more questions. Just praying to god to help show us.

The Geneticist here in ALbuquerque told us he could not test her with a cast on

and told us if we want their help to come back with out the cast. Yes me and my

wife are persitened. The lady at shiners temple told us sorry you have to go to

LA, nothing I can do for you, we said ok lets us talk to your boss, that is how

we got the flight. I try to research as much as I can to find what I can. But

right now I am overwhelmed, tired, and worn out. I am ready for a break. Any way

thanks for the prayer, and the help.

I realy thank you for your information, it dose help alot. I am a dad, dads want

answers. Oh I know is doing so much better then she was, I just want

answers to what is going on with her, how I can help her. As a parent most of

the time I feel useless, just playing the guessing game. I feel I should be

doing more. Like it is my fault. I wish I knew how to help my baby, how to make

her happy, how to resolve what she is going through. I wish I could be dealing

with her pain and she just relax, take a break, and develop like every other

baby her age. I am sorry, I am just tried. Thanks for your help,

Josh

Hi Josh,

I haven't had these issues with Noelle, but I would bring them to your pediatricain and ortho's attention to see if they feel she is on target with her milestones for her own unique situation or if she needs to be referred to another specialist to check for any underlying conditions. She may need to work with a PT, etc. Go with your gut instinct as it's usually right! Please keep me posted and hoping for some great improvement with that growth spurt! Steph - Noelle's mommy, 2 1/2 years old and in 7th cast from Rochester NY, reflux, mild plagiocephaly, mild torticollos, hypotonia, ligament laxity, suspected Ehler's Danlos III

My daughter andria, is realy doing well with her cast. He has shot up, 36 inchs tall. But I am woried. Alot of people I have read in this group with the cast can sit on their own, walk, and even crawl. My daughter still cant walk on her own with out a walker, cant sit up by her self with the cast, and dose not crawl. She is 20 months, and from what I hear she should do this. SHe not even really talking yet. Has any one had a similar problem? Any way head back July 14th, for third cast, getting cast taken off her in Albuquerque on the 9th. Cant wait to see her back. ANy way talk to every one soon. God Bless Josh

Been going to PT and seeing doc, all feel that she is behind on her milestones.

No one knows why. The thing that really confuses us is that with out her cast

she can crawl, try to due transitions, but with it, it is like she regress and

forgets what she learned. I am just tired. I want her to walk to try to point,

to reach her milestones. It is hard when every one tells you your baby is

behinde the curve.

Thanks for all the information,

Josh

Hi Josh

It sounds like your daughter has low muscle tone. My son has low muscle tone as well and can't sit unsupported in the cast. He is not crawling, walking, bearing weight etc either. I am told it will come in time so I am patiently waiting. He is only in his first cast so Im hoping that it gets better from here. Not much help I know, but your daughter sounded quite similar to my son. Has your daughter been diagnosed with hypotonia (low muscle tone)?

ANy thing is alot of help when you are trying to find out what is wrong. My

daughter was not weight bearing either. But the PT, OT, and Development have

helped her. One of the biggest things that has helped her start to weight bear

is a walker. Most of the time the PT says she dose not recommend this to her

clients, but with the cast needed freedoom and some movment. So it has

given her both, but a walker is not meant as a long term solution, and she is

wearing hers out. Almost abel to step out of it.

Any way thanks for the help,

Josh
