Guest guest
I have the powder too. That is what I was forgetting and must be the cause of the immense cost differences between my and Tonys nystatin. I have yeast on my tongue and it is resistant to nystatin. I have been doing a million units a day and its not doing anything. I kinda doubt upping the dose can help as I already have my tongue caked in nystatin for hours a day. Cranton has some views on the superiority of the powder which you can read in his piece. I am not too sure why its better than grinding up the tabs. Dura, 50 million units is probably the total amount of your script. Sounds like about a months supply when using it at the rate I have it prescribed; however Cranton advises using lots more. To my mind, its important to treat the mouth fully with nystatin. If organisms in the mouth are getting exposed to less than organisms in the GI, they are just going to acquire resistance and then descend the GI. I recently started doing what Cranton advises which is just put the powder in your mouth dry (as opposed to dissolving it in liquid and holding the last swallowful in your mouth). Eating it dry gets it waaaay more all over your mouth and for a longer time. As long as this doesnt effect what happens downstream, it seems alot better this way because the mouth gets really nuked. But that premise may not be true; if it undergoes any chemical changes in the mouth a lesser amount might reach the gut this way, or its concentration curve in the GI may be more drawn out if a bunch of is delayed in the mouth. I havent checked on these issues. > A few have been discussing Nystatin amounts and I have a question about > that myself. > > I have been taking the suspension which is 100,000 units/ml. Now 50 mil per WHAT?? is my question and thus it > makes it hard to compare and contrast. Anyone use the powder? What is > the unit per.... ?
