Guest guest
I think the thing that needs to be re-iterated with Vit. C is that massive amounts are needed to quell an illness. If I take a large amount and go overboard I get stomach (bowel) cramping but it is worth it to not get sick. Bev
Guest guest
I probably will offend some on the list telling you this, but besides the CS and DMSO, the surest way to get rid of that cold before the weekend is LOTS of Vit. C. I thought people were extreme in recommending large quantities of Vit. C. Then I learned that our closest relative in the animal kingdom, the great apes, average about 13,000 mg. of Vit. C per day. But we eat such possessed and messed up food that we get far less. You can take as much as it takes to get rid of the symptoms-- up to the point where you start getting diarrhea. That is your body's signal that it has too much. But if you are fighting a bug it can use a lot more than usual, and you may well use up to 20,000 mg. I have had people sick around me almost all winter. If it wasn't one family member, it was another. Grandchildren going to school, getting sick (and staying with Grandma since they couldn't go to school), etc. etc.. And I am one with a lousy immune system. But just before the winter I learned this about Vit. C, and decided to try it. I took about 4,000 mg. daily, and if I got a scratchy throat, or sneezed a few times, I would make a glass of juice and mix in another 4,000. (That is a teaspoon of my Vit. C powder.) I used up to 16,000 mg per day on some occasions. The result? I only got sick at all once, and that for only about two days, with a cough for a couple more. (Of course, that was the two days when my new granddaughter was born and I couldn't hold her!) But it knocks the bugs better than anything I have ever tried, even CS. (Heresy, I know.) The only side effects--a little diarrhea at 16,000, so I backed down. And I had some trouble with acidity in my stomach until I got some buffered and mixed it half and half with the Ascorbic Acid powder. That way it isn't so acid. But a few tums took care of the problem, and the mixed powder doesn't give me any trouble. I am thrilled with the results. The winter before I got a flu that hit me so bad I was much weaker clear till about July! Guest guest
Jeannie, You certainly didn't offend me. I know other people who ramp up their vit C when they feel like they are gettng sick. However, I mist my eyes and face with CS whenever I have been out in public, usually I do the misting as soon as I get back to my car. I spray my hands well, too. Plus I use CS as mouthwash, and drink some every day. I haven't even begun to come down with anything in over a year and a half. Whatever works. But my preference is to stop the bacteria and viruses at the point of entry. Guest guest
That's great too! It doesn't always work when you are living with people who are sick, especially kids, though, is my experience. But we would all do better to take precautions like that in public. Jeannie Re: feeling a cold coming on... > Jeannie, > You certainly didn't offend me. Guest guest
there is some documentation that vit c in mega doses acts as an oxidizer and so might destroy bacteria and viruses. > I think the thing that needs to be re-iterated with Vit. Guest guest
Jeannie, Since I've requested the family to wash their hands whenever they come home (vigoursly for 20 seconds with soap then rinse with water), we've all been much healthier...especially me. Guest guest
If you take mega doses in the first two weeks of pregnancy it will spike your estrogen levels and make you abort. I read about this method of abortion in an old family herbal by Joy Gardner.
