Guest guest
Hi Jelly, I wouldn't want to work toward taking ANY minocycline. I will stick with alternatives. I definitely do not believe that the low dose is more effective in killing. If anything, I think it stirred up my infection, while also being toxic to my system over time. I definitely think that minocycline builds up in my tissue, and becomes more toxic for me as time passes. I don't seem to be able to process it out of my body like most people do. The reason the minocycline reaction was worse on low dose, was because it made my heart crazy, but didn't affect my heart at normal doses or i.v. I was just as ill on both doses, but didn't have the heart scare (which landed me in the E.R.). I think this could be because the dose wasn't effective enough to kill the bacteria affecting my heart, rather it stimulated them, but was still enough to induce the toxicity symptoms as it built up in my tissue. My friend, who has graves disease/hyperthyroid, and has been taking minocin for the last couple of months, is freaked right now because her thyroid's all screwed up. Her numbers are completely messed up (reading hypo while having terrible hyper symptoms - similar to what happened to me). She stopped the mino, increased her anti-thyroid meds and has finally started feeling better. She thinks it's due to the mino. Obviously, this doesn't happen to everyone. My daughter and a friend both do well on minocin. But it has these known side effects in some people which can't be dismissed, because different people react differently. Minocin can cause pseudotumor cerebri, can screw with your thyroid, can induce lupus, and perhaps, based on these articles, could even be causing secondary porphyria in people. (Doxycycline doesn't do these things, although I don't know about the porphyia). The point is, such negative reactions cannot be dismissed or lauded as " herxes " , because in fact, some of these reactions can permanently harm (pseudotumor cerebri can blind you), even kill you. penny > Hi Penny > > I was just wondering what your thoughts are on why you have a more > serious reaction when you take lower dose Minocycline? Guest guest
Thanks Penny, We all do respond so differently. Doxy put me in the ER with my heart going crazy and BP on the floor. I was at full dose then. Decreased the dose and symptoms subsided but the swelling in my feet and ankles was to much. They were red and hot and felt like bone grinding on bone. I swithced to low dose minocycline and have done GREAT, even as low as 3 mgs every other day. It would be so nice and easy if we all responded to the ABX in the same way. I too believe that it seem to accumulate in my tissues though. Thanks for your thoughts. > > Hi Penny > > > > I was just wondering what your thoughts are on why you have a more > > serious reaction when you take lower dose Minocycline? Guest guest
Yes, exactly, we all react differently. That's why it's frustrating when people come up with protocols using only certain abx and won't allow substitutions. Not only are we colonized differently, with a variety of organisms that are mutated differently, there are other factors such as the way we metabolize drugs, that can cause reactions as well. That's why I really wish our doctors would do routine testing of our bugs, to at least get some information to help us predict how we will respond to different drugs. I know that having my organisms tested helped me tremendously in knowing which drugs to take, and which to not bother with (which was a long list, since my bugs were already resistant to so many abx). Of course, testing's not fool proof either. Testing showed minocycline would be a good drug for killing my bugs, but I just could't handle it, and no way will anyone convince me it's due to " herxing " . I know when I'm being poisoned, versus when I'm experiencing die-off. penny > Thanks Penny, > > We all do respond so differently.
