Guest guest
Nellie, Your lab results are very interesting. I was wondering if you could describe your Herxheimer reaction symptoms? I've been taking doxycycline for about four months and have had what I think is a Herxheimer reaction every few weeks. When I was taking zithromax in addition to the doxy for six weeks I had a very intense reaction, similar but stronger to what is going on with the doxy alone. By the end of the sixth week my FM pain was at a six year low! I stopped the zithromax because my liver and spleen were very painful. My doc told me to restart the zithromax on an every other day schedule and I did for two weeks but the liver and spleen pain were pretty bad again. My blood tests for liver function were high but within normal range so no real damage occurred. I am considering taking it again, but I hate the toxic effects which on top of what I presume are Herxheimer reactions are just too much. My " Herxheimer reaction " feels like my body is being scrubbed from the inside out with a bottle brush, the stiff kind you would use to clean out a baby bottle. It lasts a few hours to a few days, and is most intense a few hours a day a few days a month. Someone sent me info on research that said that Herxheimer reactions intensified about every four months, coinciding with the life cycle and reproduction cycle of some microbes! Amazing to me that they could come up with this info. Barb
Guest guest
Herxheimer or not herxheimer ? Mayby tony has a point here. The name is not a very productive name when trying to figure out what happens. People can die of a herxheimer, and you can't cure a herx. Or you just get a red mark on the upperpart of the body.... whatever. If you do an abx and recognize that you get reaktions and call that a herx, what is that meaning ? When is a herx a mere reaktion and when is it life treatening ? I suggest our discussions here require a more pricise language ! I don't have any answer what to use, maybe Tony has some ideas. -- Per Sjöholm Stockholm, Sweden
