Guest guest
Many cwd have a small amount of cell wall material, but not mycoplasmas: all mycoplasmas lack a cell wall altogether. They are bounded by nothing but a single membrane. I think they have zero suceptibility to the beta-lactams. Those are the abx that inhibit cell-wall synthesis. Therefore they kill largely when the bacteria are dividing, and I think also sometimes non-dividing bacteria ned to replace part of the wall and will die if B-lactams are there to prevent it (if I'm not making that up). Youre right that many drugs fail to work (or fail to work as well) on certain organisms when they are inside cells. I havent heard about cyclines working in the way you describe... I dont know much about mycoplasmas, tho I dont know any reason why they wouldnt be suceptible to cyclines in the same ways other bx are. <herranenb@h...> wrote: > My understanding of CWDs is based entirely on my understanding of > Mycoplasma.
