Scientists find 'key to curing ME'

I have to give a great big bah to the idea that discovering immune

activation automatically calls for immunosupressants. Anyone want to

take a peek for bacteria!? A biologist like Gow should really be

cognizant of the possibility of occult infection... it may well be

that he is and cannot say so because of science politics, UK ME

politics in particular.

That said, I have IMMENSE hopes that this work will unequivocally

demonstrate immune abnormality, which has failed to be consistently

demonstrated in CFS/ME based on any objective finding except maybe

natural killer lymphocyte activity. Inflammation is damn hard to prove

because it is mediated by paracrine hormones (ie cytokines) that

degrade rapidly and do not necessarily circulate in the blood at

abnormal levels during immune activation. And we have seen that even

more stable molecules like 1,25D do not give a reliable index of

inflammation. Measuring gene expression could be just the remedy. If

Gow is giving an accurate impression of his groups findings, the

consequences could be very wonderful. I dont want to get my hopes up

too high tho.

I am really glad he seems to be working on developing a street-level

test based on this stuff.
