I do not understand how I am receiving (3 copies now) this letter over

and over. It included originally a line that included my name I.D. at

the top of the letter, but does not appear here for some reason (that's

not important, however). Truthfully speaking, I do not remember posting

anything here, though I am a member of the group, disabled, paraplegic,

and almost totally bedridden because of deliberate malpractice carried

out on me in Israel in 1985.

However, this is only the history of the initiation of my paraplegic

situation.

More importantly, I am in Canada, unable to leave my apartment without

very special transportation, which of course I am unable to obtain, and

have been simply denied any access to any form of medical care, because

the doctors here categorically refuse to give consideration of any

realistic nature to people in my condition (I am but one of

approximately 14,900 disabled in the province that is in this spot -

this not is not directed _absolutely_ to my own case, though I would

certainly appreciate any assistance that may be offered regarding it.

My prime emphasis is the attempt to gain proper medical care for the

entire disabled community, most of whom, being as indigent as myself,

have no access to the Internet). I have written letters to the Premier

of B.C. (Glen , who only waffled and did not even attempt to answer

any of my questions at all; and the Health Minister, who has not even

bothered to answer me - period) and many others, only to be totally

ignored in my call for justice. I fail to see how a purportedly

socialist 'government' can cause so much trouble for the entire province

(doctors and nurses strikes + other paramedicals).

Can anyone provide me with a real answer why any doctor would refuse to

come to a patient's home when the patient _can_not_ get out to go to

their office? What are we to do? Fly? Teleport? Obviously these are

ridiculous solutions in their faces, but I am in a desperate search for

answers. Please reply directly to me, if you would, and I thank you for

your consideration.

Most cordially,

Mr. Eliezer Dvir

Eliezer,

You are apparently dealing with incredible bureaucracy and a dire

situation. Perhaps they would like you to simply disappear into an institution.

The only possibilities that come to mind are 1) search for a way to make

some heavy waves in the media, and 2) consider the possibility of a decent

group home or hostel to ease taking care of some of your living needs while

continuing to fight. Also, you might consider sending an email or post to

every government official in your area & in national government. Almost

everyone is probably accessible by email, = no cost to you.

In effect, it boils down to becoming your own publicist. You will need to

develop a brief and comprehensive statement about yourself, without

inclusions that touch on anger or blame, and give a clear picture of what

you need & your history of denials.

If there are as many as 15,000 people in situations like yours, you may

have the possibility of developing a politically effective group. 15,000

should certainly be able to accomplish more than one. If it were me (and I

have had to do some of these things for myself & others),

I would do as many of the above as possible.

I suspect that the underlying issue in Canada is some version of medical

cost control, or it's results. Also, suggest you contact all private

rehabilitation facilities you can for advice or guidance, and consider

preparing a letter to every private foundation that donates money for human

well-being.

If you can get enough of this going, the law of large numbers suggests you

are likely to find a solution. I know it sounds like a great deal of work,

and it is.

If you want to give me further details, please email me personally at

kturbin@... (I am a moderator of this list).

  • 4 years later...

Advair is really great. I've been taking it for 2 years now and it

keeps me stable and I rarely take the rescue inhaler whereas before

this combo, I was struggling for breath all the time.

For me, my maintenance of asthma, has been successful when I maintain

balance: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The meds are just

something I've had to live with most of my life. I take time for

myself more now than I used to. What I mean is, I really try

to nurture myself: walking with my dog, enjoying life, staying away

from drama, taking a nap in the afternoon, etc.

With the onset of asthma since I was a small child, I never felt as

if I was truly accepted. Somehow, I felt like excess baggage. This is

something that led to other problems, emotionally. I also fed into

the frustration that the medical profession had with me in terms

of " curing me " .

I try to live as normally as possible; sometimes it's hard. Does

anyone have trouble with housekeeping chores? If so, how do you

manage?

I read your recent posts. Christa-, thank you for your tips.

They sound so comforting.

Moderation is a good word for me, now. I have a tendancy to go all

over the place like there is no tomorrow, no matter what it is. This

may be the lasting side effects of years of meds. Perhaps too, it's

the psychological effect of fitting everything in before I have a

near death experience. I am now focusing on my physical self more and

practicing my breathing.

Last night, in my Tai Chi class, my teacher worked for 40 minutes

with me helping me with my forms...'inhale, exhale'...is still in my

head. It was a wonderful workout.

I am truly grateful for the life I have today.
