I never had problems with Cipro, but with Levaquin which is the same family.

I took it for months and my knees started to ache to the point I could

barely stand. I would look at them expecting them to be all swollen, but

they weren't. It probably took a year after I stopped the Levaquin before

they were completely normal.

I have a really bad tendon problem in both shoulders. May need

surgery. I think Cipro probably contributed to a predisposition or

preexisting problem making it much worse. There's really no reason for

my shoulders to be bad, they were never injured. I believe it's a

result of the disease, reduced blood flow etc., but the problem became

almost unbearable after Cipro use, and I'm still struggling with it.

Although it's not as severe as it was at one point, it's still pretty

bad.

Even knowing what I know now, I still would probably have taken Cipro,

because it was the first time I could feel my disease going into

remission. First time I saw a chance at getting well and had a

semblance of a life again for a short while.

Interesting view, a friend 28 years old recently took cipro now she

has carpal tunnel. It's like a rebound whenever you use antibiotics

to some degree.

Yes, I was definitely getting a mild case of carpal tunnel while on

Cipro as well, but that resolved itself. One time, when it was

getting pretty bad, my chiropractor simply twisted my arm in a

strange way (opposing directions, like screwing a lid on a jar). It

was amazing how the whole carpal tunnel thing disappeared! At least

for a while. The tendons around my right elbow, and even down my

forearm are still sensitive and prone to acting up at times.

Thanks you guys...

Were these effects after long-term Cipro use?

I already have all the symptoms you describe - the shoulder pain and

the carpel tunnel. This is the first time I have ever taken Cipro in

my life - we don't expect it to be long term, but you never know.

What is " long term " ?

Thanks again,

I was on Cipro for something like 6 or 8 weeks. Felt fantastic

during that time, only later learned of the potential for tendon

problems. I do feel that Cipro probably contributed to the tendon

problems I now have, perhaps by exacerbating a predisposition caused

by coagulation problems, or something similar. I've been dx'd with

tendonosis of both shoulders. Have been waiting to see the ortho for

further treatment. Unfortunately, it's probably surgery as PT didn't

really solve the problem, and considering my tendency for infection,

I'm not keen on surgery at all.

The problem with Cipro, according to the literature, is that you can

rupture a tendon out of the blue after only minimal usage, so long

term is not necessarily a factor. Of course, these tendon problems

are supposed to be pretty rare. On the other hand, I hear of a lot

of pwc with cipro/tendon problems, so our risk may be higher.

There's a group on cipro caused tendon problems. If you do a

group search you should find it.

It's a calculated risk, one that most people have no problem with.

But if I were you, I'd be very cautious and watch for any signs of

problems, since you're already describing some tendon symptoms.

I can't speak for others, (or myself, since I refused to take it) but

here's a page of reports from patients, many of whom reported

symptoms after ONE pill. You may want to discuss it with your

doctor first thing Tuesday...unless he's working on Memorial

Day...
