Dear Dan,

I also have a Cusinart. I have had it for 14 years now, and I'll tell

you, it is work every penny. It has even withstood a six foot drop to the

floor. The floor has huge dents in it but the Cusinart is just fine. The

only regret I have is that I didn't get the largest bowl capacity.

Happy shopping,

B

I've gone through a lot of them. I finally broke down and bought a Cuisinart

several years ago. It's powerful enough to do the things I want it to do

without burning up the motor.

Cuisinart has a whole series of food processors from their commercial models

which run $1000.00 down to $65 or so. I have an older one but I think it's

similar to the cuisinart pro classic (DLC-10series). It's a 7 cup capacity.

Why don't you contact cuisinart, they have a website that I found on the

search and tell them what you're looking for and see what they recommend.

Happy shopping!

My mom bought a cusinart, she did say it bogged down on her sometimes. Is

there different size motors on these or is she just using hers a lot. I have

a commercial food processor which I bought at an auction. the commercial

ones run almost $1,000 for the cheapest models. I have not used it much yet

though, all I have is the slicer. It will cost $150 to get the bowl and

blade attachment for the food processing part!! I was thinking about selling

this on ebay and getting a cusinart, my mom doesn't want me to though.

Because her bogs down she wants to share this commercial one with me.

I just have to put in a plug for my Kitchenaid food processor.

Kitchenaid is famous for their workhorse motors; I put both my mixer

and my fp to the heavy duty test quite frequently and have never had

a problem. Cook's Illustrated, which does not accept advertising and

which rates kitchen equipment much in the way that Consumers' Reports

does, rates both the Kitchenaid and the Cuisinart heavy duty large

capacity home models very highly. It's worth the extra dollars to

buy the larger model, which comes with a small bowl for smaller

jobs.

Good luck in California! Here in NYC, I feel lucky to find organic

pasteurized milk that is not homogenized--VERY scarce. We make do

with a lot of organic pasteurized non-homogenized whole milk yogurt.

We're rooting for you!

They've been around a long time. Many people who have them retire them once they start getting familiar with their Vitamixes but there are some things they can do that a Vitamix can't. The primary blade is a razor-sharp "S" blade and you can get a really nice mince with it; you can also fit the bowl with slicing and grating blades, citrus juicers, etc. This is probably the best one available: http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/2346344/?catalogId=59 & bnrid=3180501 & cm_ven=Shopping & cm_cat=Froogle & cm_pla=Electrics & cm_ite=2346344 ; it's made in France and is a very nice piece of equipment (our Nikki recently bought the smaller model).

If you can only have one, the Vitamix is a lot more versatile but it doesn't hurt to have both if it's in the budget and you have the room and will use it (we have a number of very serious appliance junkies here, myself included--we don't throw stones at those who have to own it all).

Food Processor

What exactly is it for and do I need one if I have a VM? From what I can gather it seems very similar to a blender except maybe it has the capability to dice stuff into bigger pieces.

Thanks , I ended up picking up a Black and Decker food processor on sale

yesterday, mostly for grating cheese and slicing veggies, which the VM can't do.

I hate grating cheese by hand.

I have my eye on something else for grating and slicing (despite owning

a food processor with every blade known to man). If I ever acquire one,

I'll share.

NOOOOOO, share NOW!! I am sure there is a rule written into the group that there will be no withholding of information related to gadgets! Your eviction will be initiated if you don't spill NOW! The group attorney has been notified of your failure to comply. Eviction notice has been drafted. This unpleasantness can be avoided by your immediate disclosure.

I'm one of those who has lots of kitchen tool/devices. I use them all. For

slicing I either use my chef's knife or food processor but I also love my

mandolin. They all work it just depends on what I want the final product to be.

I always say anything that isn't useful gets tossed or given away. The only

large expensive item that might fall into that category is my ice cream maker.

It was over $300. And I haven't used it since I got the VitaMix. (still VM ice

cream is not the same is it).

My problem is that I make homemade cheese, which is a different consistency to store bought, and I regularly trash appliances by trying to shred or slice my cheeses. I LOVED the salad shooter for many things-found it to be a right spiffy gadget. Sadly, it didn't feel the same way about my cheeses and went to the great gadget factory in the sky... :(From: <kareningotham@...>Subject: Re: Re: Food Processor Date: Sunday, March 27, 2011, 9:05 AM
