Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the welcome and helpful tips. Chloe is being cast tomorrow and has to be at Shriners at 6am. I have toys/books that she likes to bring with. I have also bought the poise pads that have been recommended. Should i bring clothes that are larger than her normal size? Also, we have the Britax Boulevard car seat. It is still rear facing though. will we need to turn it around? is it hard for them to bend their legs? is there anything else i need to bring with us that would be helpful? thanks again! My name is Celeste and I have a 20 month old daughter Chloe who has scoliosis. In January '08, we went to see an orthopedic surgeon at the advice of her pediatrician and her physical therapist because they were concerned about her spine curvature. He took xrays laying down and said her spine looked fine and to come back in a year. He explained that she had neuromuscular imbalance which caused her spine to look crooked when sitting. She has a chromosome abnormality where she is missing a piece of one of her chromosomes causing global delays which is why we see a PT in the first place. that is a whole other story but explains her neuromuscular issues. When we went to see her neurosurgeon for something else in August of 08, he took xrays and said her curve had progressed to 29 degrees on the top and 45 degrees on the bottom (s-curve) and she would need a TLSO brace. by the time he consulted with the ortho surgeon, we didn't get her in a brace until > november. > > in january, we went for more xrays and her curve had gotten worse. at that point, her PT and physiatrist recommended that we go to Shriners in Chicago. we actually live in chicago and figured we had to at least check it out since we are so fortunate to have it nearby. we had our appointment last week and they feel she is a good candidate for casting. We go in next Monday to get the cast put on. I am a bit nervous but willing to try anything at this point. I feel like i should be more on top of this and be more knowledgeable about the whole process which is why i joined this group. I have a 3 month old son as well so my days of obsessive internet research are over (or at least on hold). lol. > > any advice, support, words of wisdom about what to expect or at least your experience would be appreciated. > > thanks. >
