Guest guest
Hi Barb, Did you read about this new pill though? It's not an antioxidant per se, but helps the body produce its own antioxidants, including SOD. And if the research is legit, then this pill seems very successful in reducing oxidative stress (the ABC reporter himself had a reduction of over 50%). Of course, there's no proof that reducing oxidative stress alone will be some kind of cure-all. But the fact that you found enzymes helpful in your recovery, and also that these SOD enhanced mice were able to heal " normally " from wounds, makes this worth a look. penny > SOD is one of the antioxidant enzymes (Superoxide dismutases). > It's not new.. but maybe the news that it promotes healing in the > diabetic is new. > > Here's a very good site on enzymes.. > > http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/sup_0328. s > html
Guest guest
Maybe I'm not making the connection between 'wound' and 'infection' strong enough. If you can't heal from a wound, it's usually because it's infected. If these mice healed like " normal " mice when their SOD was increased, then increasing our SOD could potentially help us heal from our infections. Unfortunately, many antioxidant supplements don't really accomplish the goal all that effectively, disappearing somewhere in the GI tract before doing a lot of good. If this new pill somehow promotes the body to create its own antioxidants (like a newborn's) then it makes more sense than spending lots of money on antioxidants (like C, E & A) that are difficult to assimilate. Although I certainly wouldn't say they are useless, just that perhaps this new pill could be more effective? Certainly seemed to bear out in the reporter's results. penny > > SOD is one of the antioxidant enzymes (Superoxide dismutases). > > It's not new.. but maybe the news that it promotes healing in the > > diabetic is new. > > > > Here's a very good site on enzymes.. > > > > > http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/sup_032 8. > s > > html

Guest guest
That's odd. Don't know why the links not working now. It's Protandim (in the message title). http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/Health/story?id=814805 & page=1 penny > > > SOD is one of the antioxidant enzymes (Superoxide dismutases). > > > It's not new.. but maybe the news that it promotes healing in the > > > diabetic is new. > > > > > > Here's a very good site on enzymes.. > > > > > > > > > http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/sup_032 8 > . > > s > > > html
