Guest guest
Hello Marsha On the internet I found an article you wrote about people who cannot tolerate selective sounds. First I will give you a little history. My 27 year old daughter has for many years...I can think back to at least nine years old....not been able to tolerate the sound of people eating....snoring....breathing and also she stops my leg from swinging. Her issues with these things is not the normal most people feel with certain peoples eating habits etc. It has interfered with her family life...her social life and her dating life. I see physical and emotional changes in her persona as she tries to participate in anything that involves food. Her face contorts...she shudders....she tries to cover her ears without others noticing ...she turns away...she leaves...she shakes....her jaw clenches etc etc etc.... For many years I have tried to find anything online that would help explain this but until I recently found your article ...I could find nothing of value. It sounds like a rare new field of which treatment is not only difficult to find but also inconclusive? I found that you were on a message board that has shut down but I am now on the one for Hypercuasis... Someone has suggested pink noise therapy... She has said she will try anything as she is so tired and frustrated and sad that she can't enjoy meals with her family, boyfriend etc and people can't enjoy their meals with her present. She does realize there is something to the repetition as well as chewing, snoring, breathing and leg swinging have repetitious movements?? Other noise do not bother as much as the ones mentioned ..except she says....if she is trying to fall asleep. I just wanted you to know that you can add one more to your growing list of people who are suffering from this type of sound sensitivity..... I hope you do get something published in Pediatrics Journal as hers definitely started in childhood and finding any information or help or even a Dr who believes it is anything but psychological is next to impossible. When I told her I had found your website and that what she is suffering is very real....she cried and said " you mean I'm not crazy " How sad is that! Thanks for your time Marsha and I hope if others respond to you...your literature will grow and someone will listen to you... Sincerely Debbie
