Guest guest
I read this list because people on it use science and logic to try to understand and explain what is going on in their bodies. I think that when breakthroughs do come, people on this group are going to be all over them. I'm sorry I can't contribute myself; my doctorate is in the humanities -- not doing me much good now! The discussions on this list about inflammation have prompted me to see if someone might be willing to answer this: (1) (a) After 1.5 years on antibiotics, now, within 3 hours after taking any antibiotic or tinnidazole or diflucan, I feel stinging, burning & pressure in my brain, eyes, ears, brain, spine, & intestines. After the medication has been in my body a couple of days, these feelings subside. As I stay on the medication longer, they increase again. ( When I go off each antibiotic, within 1 day I feel significant contracting and tremors in my brain, spine, eyes & ears, fatigue & brain fog. This gradually decreases until about 5 days after going off. Then I'm left with just the pressure in my head & right eye, fatigue & tremors that have been symptoms of the illness. Is (a) a herxheimer reaction from bacteria die-off and is ( from bacteria increasing again? That's what my LLMD says. But (a) seems too soon after the beginning of antibiotics & ( seems too soon after. Is, instead, (a) a sensitivity reaction to the antibiotics causing inflammation & swelling in the brain & central nervous system within hours after taking them? And is ( the inflammation and swelling subsiding as the antibiotics leave my system? (2) When feelings of inflammation described in ¶(1)(a) get strong, I've been going off antibiotics for several days, then re-starting. Is this good, to give my brain relief from what feels like swelling & inflammation? Or is it bad for my brain to swell & then contract often? (3) Is there any test that should be done to show whether there really is swelling and inflammation of my brain when on antibiotics, and contracting when going off, and whether this is causing damage? (4) Is there anything my local doctor should prescribe to reduce such inflammation & swelling in the brain and central nervous system while on antibiotics? Thank you for any help understanding what is going on. Tempe
Guest guest
Tempe, I get all of your brain/spine/ears/eyes pressure symptoms, after a few days on (some) abx and herbals (artemisin) and like you I now go off when it gets too, too bad. But I got all of the very same symptoms lonf before I ever had any abx + vertigo + buzzing in head, so... I too would like to be able to answer the questions you ask. Guest guest
Tough questions, Tempe. It seems we're just beginning to understand inflammation's role in our illness, and we've still got a long way to go. My question would be, have you tried the various anti-inflammatories to see if they make any difference in your reactions? This would help you determine if your reaction is indeed inflammatory or something else. And you say it happens with ALL antibiotics and anti-fungals? The " Herxing " definition would seem conveniently broad in that case, not to mention, the points you make about their timing. But whether it's a herx or not, I'd want to get to the bottom of it and figure out how to minimize or eliminate such a reaction. Have you noticed any improvement from the abx/afx you've taken? It seems after a year and a half, you'd have lessened some of your symptoms, including the ones you describe. Since I started Benicar, which works as a very powerful anti- inflammatory for me, the presure in my head has been greatly relieved (my daughter also experienced this relief of pressure at first, but then started having headaches when she lay down, so she stopped). My migraines are gone, the tension at the base of my skull is relieved. I also believe that my trigeminal nerve must be very inflammed, which normally contributes to a clenched jaw and chattering teeth. The Benicar removes both of those symptoms, leaving me with a very relaxed jaw, which definitely seems to either affect or coincide with a much less anxious state of mind. If it were me, I'd try some of the various anti-inflammatories and see if anything relieves your symptoms. If you've seen no improvement from any of the abx/afx you've taken, then it seems you might want to find another way to determine which drugs you need. penny > I read this list because people on it use science and logic to try to > understand and explain what is going on in their bodies. Guest guest
Hi Tempe If it is a herx, I don't believe 3 hours is too soon to notice it. When I first started on antibiotics, and whenever I increased my dose, I herx'd within a couple hours. However, my herx symptom was primarily bad headaches. Sometimes I would get sneezy also, but it was the headaches that were terrible. I had some of the other symptoms you mentioned, but that wasn't from antibiotics, it was from being mercury poisoned and for that B12 shots every day worked wonders. The only suggestion I have sounds crazy but drink a lot of water with your antibiotic. A guy one the list one time said herx was from dehydration and I thought that was ridiculous. I always drank a fair amount with my dose. But I did increase it and drank A LOT and the headaches got very much better. Also, rather than starting and stopping all the time, I felt it was better to start on a low dose that didn't make me miserable, and slowly work my way up. I still could stop a day when I had to, because I had to feel good that day. But I started at 100mg every other day, then 100mg a day, then 200mg a day, etc over the course of many months. That way i wasn't ever too miserable. Guest guest
Doris, I don't think the water thing sounds crazy. It's supposedly one of the best ways to flush toxins. If you rife (killing bugs with light and sound waves) and don't drink water at the same time, you'll definitely feel woozy, maybe headachey, for a while afterwards, presumably from the toxin release caused by the die-off. Drinking a lot of water during rifing does prevent that. So to me it would make sense to drink water with any antimicrobial treatment. Interestingly, whenever I got i.v. vitamin C, I'd get that woozy/fuzzy feeling afterwards if I didn't drink a LOT of water during the infusion. I'd always be dying for water, juice, soup, anything liquid after an infusion. I don't know why it was so dehydrating. My doc said it effected the fluids balance in the organs, or something like that. I'd feel good after I got hydrated though. penny > Hi Tempe > If it is a herx, I don't believe 3 hours is too soon to notice it.
