Guest guest
Hi all, after 5 years of no dx, (except severe IBS at Standford) a doctor found high titres (the highest he's ever seen he says) of bartonella in my daughter ( as well as positive reactions for ehrlichia and babesia) So she's out of the IBS wastebasket, which is really great! But now he is putting her on levaquin for 3 months which is very scary because she quit taking it once before because she had such a bad reaction. Now I wonder if she had a herx, or just a bad reaction to a drug that some people can't tolerate. So I am going back to look at the herx info I saw here. And I was excited to see the quinolone discussion. I'd be grateful for any hints of how you guys would cope with 3 months of levaquin for example if people should make sure they have enough magnesium then what relationship of calcium to magnesium is good to take? Also for someone with GI inflamation(common with bartonella) won't magnesium cause diarrhea--is there away to avoid that? The other things is I know my daughter will be determined to stay on this drug because she's young and she's lost 5 years already and she wants to get back in the land of the living. But I'm concerned that with the quinolones, if you have problems maybe you should try a different drug right away before permanent damage is done. This doc, tho brilliant, (like you all!) is hard to get to if you have a problem, so any advice is welcome. If you consider my post off topic, a private email is fine. Also thanks you amazing posters. Throughout the nightmare of having a suffering child who seemed to have some kind of infection or parasite, it always helped me to read about your convictions that infections were being misdiagnosed as CFS or Fibromyalgia or IBS or in reality " give her anti-depressants and get out of my office and stop wasting my time "
Guest guest
, this is more an anecdote than anything else, but i find that calcium plus up and magnesium loosens. Maybe if you can keep them balanced, you can get the benefit of both. Levaquin helped me but I stopped taking it because I couldn't be sure my 'herx' wasn't tendon issues. In hindsight, I rather doubt that it was. I hope you get more useful replies from others. > Hi all, > after 5 years of no dx, (except severe IBS at Standford) a doctor > found high titres (the highest he's ever seen he says) of bartonella > in my daughter ( as well as positive reactions for ehrlichia and > babesia) So she's out of the IBS wastebasket, which is really > great!
