Hiya,

So I had this interesting thing happen changing pain medications. I

started substituting the new pain med on Friday afternoon, then

starting Saturday morning had really nasty, gripping spasms in my

lower gut, diarrhea...think the worst IBS day you've ever had.

So I am trying to figure out what's happening, because the level of

pain relief has stayed pretty constant, the new medication is doing

what it was supposed to, keep me initially at the same place pain-wise

until we determine for certain that I can tolerate it.

I came to the conclusion that I was having localized opiate withdrawl

in my lower gut (where I have long suspected my last medication spent

the better part of its very undistinguished career).

Today the problem was still bad so I called my pain specialist, laid

it out, and gave him my theory.

He thinks I got it exactly right! Has given me steps to relieve the

problem.

Of course, it was pretty much a no-brainer. Pain relif more or less

constant, gut in an uproar, only change a shift from a poorly absorbed

to a much better absorbed opiate pain medication. So not to worry, my

gaargantuan ego is temporarily mollified with being made Pope and has

no plans to add an MD after my name.
