Ear plugs help a lot

I've just recently started using earplugs on a regular basis and the

results have been profound. For years I would only use earplugs at

night while I slept or in limited situtions. My biggest problem with

wearing them in public was that I'm a guy with short hair and

earplugs are very noticable on me. I really didn't want people

saying, " hey did you notice 's got foam sticking out of his ears,

what up with that? " So I only used them a few times. Plus wearing

them actually cut out so much noise that I'd have a hard time hearing

anything. What I've done now and I'm not recommending anyone else do

this, I'm doing this at my own risk, is trim the earplugs down. I

purchased a package of flesh colored, super soft foam ear plugs and

cut about 3/8 of an inch off the overall length, I them insert them

about 1/16th of an inch into my ear canals. The result is that I now

have earplugs that are extremely discreet and the Noise Reduction

Rating is decreased because there is less earplug in my ear. They

seem to block out the higher frequency noises or at least dull them

to the point that it's not nearly as bothersome, while allowing me to

converse in a somewhat normal fashion. Again I don't want to tell

anyone else to try this but it seems to be working well for me. The

only time I take them out is when I shower in the morning, I use a

standard pair of tweezers and it's not nearly as difficult as it

sounds, being that the foam is very resilient they can be removed

rather easily.

You know what, if that works for you, then I say bravo!

I did have a pt. once who put two earplugs into each ear and left

them and after a while the skin grew into them and about once a year

he had to have them removed surgically and it was a real hassle, I

have to admit.

Your solution sounds like it works for you, which is what we are all

trying to share here.
