I was answering Jeanne's question directly, but figured the rest of you might like to know how this came about. I am proud of myself -- I am acting like it's one of my kid's health -- not mine. Big difference, huh!

I think a key here is that I feel comfortable enough with my FP doc to ask her to do this. I think she feels bad for putting me off so long and getting her hand slapped by my psychiatrist. But hey, she wasted $1250 of Cigna's money doing a MRI to make sure I didn't have MS. Whatever! Why is it SO hard for dr's to even consider thyroid trouble. Wait, I am preaching to the choir! :)

I am SO glad I found y'all!!!!

When I made the appt today, the receptionist told me they would mail a packet for me to fill out. She said the packet would tell me what I needed to bring, but she wanted to lmk that they (starting yesterday) are being VERY strict on bringing records to the appt. with you.

I asked what 'records' she was talking about. She said blood work, basically. I told her I only had TSH. She said hmmm. So, I asked her what other blood work it would be good to have. That's when she told me T3 Free and T4 Free (I am pretty sure that's what she told me, but I am going to call back tomorrow to double check). I asked about antibodies and she said they'd order that there if he thought it was needed.

I just decided I was going to tell my FP doc the antibodies too, just so I could have it done -- I knew she'd never check (or hope she won't). I am just SO SICK of being patient and by-the-book and having to live my life like I am. I'm sure you know what 'like I am' means, so I won't waste any words on that :)

The short answer is -- when she mentioned the 'records' and I quizzed her on it. She didn't tell me I had to get it from my dr., but when I asked she said that'd be a great idea because that would speed things up for Dr. Bussey (and me). The receptionist is hypo herself ... nice to know she understands. I guess that's why I am even considering keeping the appt with Dr. Bussey, instead of waiting for Dr. Bressler. Know what I mean? I hope I am not making a big mistake. What do you think???Holly

Dr. Bressler

Holly,

When I made the appointment he didn't ask me for the T3 andT4 Free and antibodies but I'd like to have them before seeing him. How did it come about that he requested those?

Your health is just as important as your kids' health Holly. #1 reason is that if Mama Ain't Happy, Then Nooobody's Happy! (((Hugs)))

Jan,

Thanks for saying all this. It never occured to me not to have my

bloodwork sent over to my GP. I am seeing Miklius if you recall and

will try and start back up with my GP when the time comes to go

back. I am interested in learning more of Bressler too. I just

can't decide yet what to do.

Miklius ordered all the right tests (Free T4 and Free T3) but goes

off of TSH, obviously. I had posted my results here a while back.

She wouldn't let me up my Armour dose, said I'd been doing fine on

the 60mg dose for so long. All along I was having some hypo symptoms

and I didn't know. I have been doing the 90/60mg alternating and I

feel much better. I should probably be doing the 90 but I'm afraid

to try it. I also got off the antidepressant I was on for panic

attacks and feel a little better with that too. (I hope!)

Thanks to the group, I am learning a bunch. :)

time to stop at Kinko's and copy everything for yourself. Then always

ask for copies of lab reports and keep them in a folder or looseleaf

binder. If a new doc wants copies, make another trip to Kinko's. Keep

your own copies.

tests. Some of them prescribe Armour or Cytomel. We have yet to hear

if they adequately medicate the person who cannot get their meds

optimized without the TSH being suppressed. TSH worship is rampant

among endos, even more than other docs.

ordered all of the right tests, but adjusted her meds by the TSH

alone! Like I have said before, if you see a doc on Shomon's Top

Doc List who is not on our list, there is generally a good reason for

it.

depressed and he suggested that they see another doc for treatment

(antidepressants?). They might just be undermedicated with regard to

thyroid. I would consider the antidepressants as a last resort after

thyroid meds were optimized.

> Is your GP willing to write your Armour prescriptions?

Jan, I am pretty sure he will. I was on Synthroid when I saw him the

last time. I don't think I was on Armour back then. I will see when

I go what he says. I think I'll give him a shot first. He has been

very kind to me for so many years. He noticed my thyroid problem to

start with and sent me to an endo. He is the one with Graves.
