Guest guest
Hi Holly, I see Dr. Bressler. I have seen him once and really like him. I have not met Dr. Bussey, so can't help you there. It took me 4-5 months to get in to see Dr. Bressler. Just wanted to let you kow I think he was worth the wait for me. I have no thyroid due to Pappilary cancer. Sorry I couldn't be of much help, just wanted to let you know I like him. KarrelHolly Mohr wrote: Have only been on this list since the weekend. WOW so much great information!!! Thanks! My family practice dr. is sending me to an endo. My TSH is 1.59 (that's the only blood test she's done). Had a sono which was normal. I have SO many symptoms and am refusing to 'live like this' any longer. (I also wonder if I have something going on with my cortisol or something...) I called FP back and told her endo wanted me to have T3 Free, T4 Free and antibodies prior to my visit with him, so she's going to run those for me. She is referring me to Dr. Bressler (info from Top Doc list is below). First appointment is May 24th. The receptionist offered Dr. Bussey because he can see me April 6th. I asked her lots of questions and she said he's very similar to Dr. Bressler in her treatment approach (receptionist is hypo herself and she kept laughing at how many numbers and stuff I'd have to repeat or redo ) So, what do y'all think???? I'd love to go sooner, but is it a gamble I should take? Thanks, Holly ------------------------------------------------------ DallasDr. Bressler, endocrinologist, 7777 Forest Lane, Dallas Tx 75230 Medical City Complex A reader writes, “This doctor loves a challenge, I have been to several who couldn't figure out what was going on, but Dr Bressler took the time to listen to all my symptoms and not just dismiss them as being "in my head". He encourages you to get involved with your treatment, always taking the time to explain anything you need. And, he will not stop until he figures out what is wrong. He is fabulous!” (NOTE: Dr. Bressler has a six month waiting list, if you are a new patient.) Dr. Bressler is very popular:"He is an excellent listener and answers questions well-- not against your involvement with your ailments and complaints. Very thorough in terms of examination/lab work and not afraid to refer out for other specialties which have involvement with the disease process-- that is eyes-- ENT -- radiation-- and so on. I appreciate the fact that he doesn't have a problem saying he doesn't know something -- we know how docs can be as I ask some tough questions due to the severity of my current conditions. I never feel rushed at the office-- and 9 out of 10 times if I call or email I get an answer promptly. He is compassionate-- but formal-- refuses to use patient's first name-- even when asked. He is also in contact with my eye doc due to prednisone-induced diabetes when my optic neuritis flares up-- and monitors sugars for me without my going in office as I'm house bound due to vision problems. All around a good man-- a "mensch". If you are willing to be a responsible patient-- this doc is for you." Another patient writes:“Dr Bressler is the type of doctor who will sit and listen to your problems until you get some answers. A few years ago, when I was severely depressed, he noticed. I didn't even tell him about it. A few weeks after my appointment, he called me to make sure I had seen another physician about my depression. That s the kind of doctor he is, when you call and leave a message at his office, nine times out of ten, he is the one that calls back, not his nurse! He actually cares about his patients.”
Guest guest
Holly, I think the reason Dr. Bressler is so highly recommended is because he'll listen to you and be thorough, just from what I hear. I've made an appointment with him but I think I'll also make an appointment with other recommended doctors from this group or the sight you got his recommendation from and might be able to get in sooner but then I have a few good doctors lined up for a few opinions. Guest guest
, That is what amazed me about this new Endo I just saw, Dr. Leshin... only tests he ran were FT3, FT4, Total T3, and TSH. That was it. Can you believe that? Cathryn > Wow, I am just so pleased at the fact that an ENDO, of all doctors, is asking for a Free T3 and Free T4! You may not know how rare this is yet. Good luck! And hopefully, the endo will treat according to your Free readings, NOT your TSH. > > > Tx
Guest guest
, I, fortunately, don't know how lucky I am. I am trying not to get my hopes set on any type of treatment -- all the talk on about.com is distressing. What is WRONG with these dr's??? I told my psychiatrist how hard it is to get treatment and he was shocked! I am so pleased that he's not giving up on me -- think that's why I am pressing this so much and not just letting them push me around this time. When I went in to the FP dr's office today to get my f3, F4 and antibodies blood drawn, they asked me 'which antibodies did they want'. UGH! I don't know...she told me not to worry about that one. I am still tempted to get them to do some kind. What do you think? I am driving myself crazy trying to decide what kind of 'research' I need to take to my appt with me. What do y'all think??? There's just SO much out there! I guess once I get my new bloodwork I will know a little more about me specifically. Guest guest
What I find most amazing is the fact that the doctor's office did not know what antibodies to test you for, all on their own. Why should you have had to have told THEM what antibodies to test for? Antithyroglobulin and Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies. My Endo? With the type of doctors that have surrounded me in my particular community (and I've been through many), there is not one at this point. All the info and how to treat I've gathered on my own over a long period of time and the drive to take me into feeling well is what has done this. I have no insurance, plus the fact that many good thyroid docs don't take insurance. I believe there are probably some good ones in the Houston area, but I cannot afford them at this time. I learned over a long period of time about the ins and outs of this disease, and I have been self-treating since around June or July of last year, changing to Armour around 5 months ago, self-treating. I would not advise this for just anyone because there is a lot to understand here, but I know that I feel 10 times better under my own treatment, even with the ups and downs of med adjustments I've been doing, than I ever did (with THIS disease) under the guidance of 3 or 4 doctors, including one endo, who never knew anything about a thyroid. The last doctor that I went to about this nightmare was in February of last yr, and was the one endo that I ever saw. I thought that he would know so much more than a family doctor (haha). I was certainly wrong----he told me, before my blood tests came back after having this disease for umpty yrs, quote, "Once the thyroid has failed once, it never changes", end quote. I almost laughed out loud, and thought that I really needed to get more confidence in myself because I already knew much more about this disease, despite his licensing, and here I was paying him to tell me what I KNEW beyond the shadow of a doubt was such wrong information. I desperately sought help and support, and that was when I found this site and some others. After learning even more, I decided to undertake my own treatment, but I would not advise others to do this, if they have the means to seek better doctor care. I know that I can't afford to spend big bucks deciding who is best, but there are a couple in Houston that I've had my eye on. If I need a thyroid scan, etc, it's pretty obvious that I can't do my own care, when it comes to this sort of thing. I feel better right now than I've felt in 3-4 yrs, when it was a task just to get out of bed and go to work.
