A few years ago at a clinic here in Chicago, Mel mentioned that if engineers

were to design a more stable spine, they would have far fewer facets, but

the price of this improved stability would be limited real-world mobility. His

point was that simple models could not always be used to assess or describe

complex interactions.

Do you believe this is at the heart of the current discussion of the spine

as levered system?
