Update, Stratton protocol.

Here to report on my latest experience with Flagyl.

I took Flagyl a week ago for the first time.

My Doc's orders are 2 500mg ea day for 5days one time ea month.

The first day I took just one.

Felt a little flu-ish, took some charcoal that seemed to help.

Then 2 pills for the next 3 days.

2nd day I awoke with a raging headache and an obvious acute sinus

infection, sore throat, swollen glands in neck. On the side I had

forgotten to take guai for a few days so I believe my sinuses dried

and didn't drain. I have had pan sinus surgery 4 times so lack the

cilia to move things along without the guaifenisen. I am still

recovering from that. I am exhausted and have only left the house a

couple of times briefly in the past week. This could have been

exacerbated by a herx as I have chronic sinusitis.

Then on the 4th day my knee which has arthritis in it began hurting.

Had to run an errand so I was on my feet. By late afternoon I called

the Doc sobbing on the phone because the pain was so intense. Just to

put the pain in perspective, I have FMS and osteoarthritis so I

live with pain most of the time and have never called the Doc sobbing.

I am so used to problem solving my own illness that I immediately

blurted out that I thought maybe I should switch one of my antibiotics

to Minocycline since I had read here that it may have some

anti-inflammatory properties.

The Doc, was , WHOA! we need to take care of the immediate pain and

inflammation first. We can talk about the antibiotics later. He told

me to take prednisone for a week and to D/C the Flagyl. I agreed

reluctantly as I have had a bad experience with prednisone. That

evening I took several doses of Vicodine as well. I never take

Vicodine but I really felt I needed it.

So for the past 4 days I have been on Prednisone. The effect is that I

just want to sleep. I feel like a limp rag. I guess this is good

because even though I am hurting I always push myself and the past few

days there is no pushing.

He told me that when I start the Flagyl again to just take one a day.

Wow, I guess that knee must have been full of those cryptic little

devils. Don't want to go through that again soon. Hoping the next herx

won't be so bad.
