Guest guest
I started Stratton and got as close as possible, for now to following his guide lines. Doxy 100mg twice daily,Metronidazole 800 mg split into 4 doses, 200mg every 6 hr, mostly with food. Works great no herxs, no upset stomach,I read 600mg to 2400mg is the recommended dose, so I may up it later. Also niacin, b vitamins and last, just for insurance 200mg of fluconazole. This is my 32 straight day, I feel much stronger. I plan to go at least 3 or 4 months. I checked and there are no enteractions between any drug I am taking. I have made up my mind to go in any direction that works for me. If I herx it up hopefully I will be able to recognize what I experience as such. " Hi , I'm one of the quiet ones. Recent WB tested positive for Lyme which may be additional to or the cause of RA (which I've had for 14 years. I was on Minocin 100 MWF for 2 1/2 years and was unable to increase above that due to increased inflamation and other symptoms. A week and a half ago I started Ketek 250 BID with minimal problems. This last Sunday I started Tini at 1/2 of a 250 mg cap (Doc has ordered 500 mg BID). The reason for this timid approach is that a year ago I tried Flagyl and after the 2nd 250 mg dose, had a horrible flare that lasted a couple of months (I took no more). I am now on my 2nd day of 250 mg/day (1/4 of what doc ordered). I've struggling with your question of 'herx' vs 'adverse effects' with my experience of Minocin and Flagyl and now Tini. My experience in this past 4 days is that of increased inflamation (the kind that can be dealt with), a terrible headache (that is presently relieved), pain under my diaphragm (?unhappy liver), night sweats, urgency/nocturia, very disturbed sleep (maybe got 3 hours interrupted last night compared to 7), some anxiety, nausea. I realize how new to this I am but thought that a herx would be evident after several days on Tini? maybe this is due to toxicity? I would love to understand this also, Robyn PS I've enjoyed your input here immensely.

" *** I took 10 days of 250mg X 3 a day generic Flagyl alone a couple weeks ago and I have just completed ten days and am continuing for another ten days. I am experiencing no adverse effects, but I am getting a little herx in the form of a little more pain and stiffness but not unbearable. Doxy was much worse in the herx dept. For me, the benefits far outweigh anything I have felt (so far). I did learn the first time around that it had to be a particular brand or it only worked minimally. Guest guest
The pills are marked MP45 and the bottle says MUTUAL. The one that Didn't Work are marked 5540 and the bottle says Labs. Guest guest
IMO, A true Herx does not go on for days and days and days. So if the trend is downward day after day, and if you feel bad enough to get into bed .. i.e. you can't function, then back off the dose or stop and recover. Lyme will still be there to fight another day when you fell better. Guest guest
My doctor is pretty much a wait till its broke, then fix it. He is very good, been with him for about 30 years. But I wanted to try this to see if it will make a difference. I have been going down hill for about 2 years, and during that time I have taken lots of Doxy, so I may have already killed lots of bugs. Reason for little or no herxs. This may a over the top approach, my doctor thinks so, but I just want to get ahead of this disease.
