Guest guest
Pam: Your post, in my opinion, is a classically good example of whether someone is having a herx (Gneg bacteria dying in the brain meninges- resulting in headache) or drug reaction - This is hard to figure out. Does the head ache resolve within 24 hrs? Do you also have a stiff neck with the head ache? When you say auras do you mean flashing lightenbolts thru the visual field of shimmering at the periphery of the visual field (DO you have red eye?) Have you taken your temp? (is it extremely low, or do you feel feverish)? What are you combining the Diflucan with? And if you're taking anything else, are you takingtking them on the same day, or within hrs of each other? The only other med I am taking with the Diflucan is Amphoceterin B lozenges (Funglin), 6 daily. I have taken these before for up to 3 months without any problems apart from constipation and I was taking them for a few days prior to the Diflucan. The headache took 2 days to resolve from the Monday episode and the next day I felt a bit dizzy with it. There is no red eye or stiff neck. With the Monday aura I just lost vision and then noticed black spots which changed to shimmering lights that kept moving. It lasted about 20 minutes and I didn't feel dizzy after the way I did today but I did feel dizzy the next day with the headache. The episodde really churned up my central nervous system and made me feel very anxious and shaky. Today the pattern was slightly different. It immediately went into zig zagging patterns with shimmering and lasted initially about 20 minutes and then I felt very dizzy and anxious (pulse went to about 96 beats a minute so took 10 mg betablocker and this helped). I didn't feel better for nearly 2 hours because the black spots then started with slight shimmering. After about 2 hours the pain started in the right temple whereas the visual phenomena had taken place in the left eye. I still have the pain in my right temple but did manage to go out for a short walk with my dog later this afternoon which actually did help me to feel a bit better and brighter. I am due to go away for 3 days tomorrow and am concerned about it starting up again but I won't be taking anymore Diflucan till next week when the meds should arrive from the pharmacy. In the meanwhile I am not sure whether to continue with the Funglin lozenges but I still do have some yeasts in my gut. Naturally I am quite concerned about following a daily protocol of Diflucan in view of what has happened. I did wonder about an interaction between the Amphoceterin and the flucanazole but couldn't find anything mentioned anywhere about this. All I could see was side effects of flucanazole could be vertigo, dizziness, headaches, rashes etc. If it isn't serious then I can put up with it but it definitely debilitates me and hits my confidence. Guest guest
Boy... Based on my own experience with inflammation of the optic nerve, posterior and anterior Uveitis.. aka Ocular Lyme.... and the symptoms that come with it, ALL which were axacerbated with abx that penetrated the brain, I think what you're describing IS localized die off of a colony in your head - flaring inflammation possibly at the optic nerve. Your eye symptoms (in my opinion and experience) are more un-nerving than headache without the eye symptoms, mainly because blindness- or partial visual field loss should not be part of the collateral damage from abx... and that scared the heck outta me. Swelling of the optic nerve can cause jagged shimmering lights. I also had a central vision problem that was like looking thru a gob of vasiline, while the peripheral field was crystal clear. I think in light of everything, Difulcan is the proverbal double edged sword here for you, and I think you're wise to let your eyes recover before going for another round.
