Guest guest
I can't answer your questions, but I'd be extremely cautious with any kidney ailments and get them tested regularly to make sure they're allright. My friend's i.d. doctor always makes her stop everything she's on if her kidneys go out of whack, no matter how badly she's feeling off the drugs. Then he'll reintroduce one thing at a time, testing her kidneys each time. The kidneys just can't recover from damage the way your liver can. I think we really need to watch out for drug interactions that can hurt the kidneys. Another thing we need to be sure to watch out for is having medical procedures done while we're on these various abx treatments. My friend's kidneys are now permanently damaged because an ER doctor gave her iodine in an imaging procedure while she was on i.v. vanco and dehydrated. Apparently, that's a really bad combo and she's being strongly encouraged by another doctor to sue the hospital. Even though doctors are supposed to know these things, I guess they forget. We can't afford that. Sick as we are, we have to stay on top of these things. :-( penny > > Hi, > > I would like to use a bit of the vast amount of knowledge that many of > you have. > > I have been on minocycline and fluconazole for a while with some > modest improvements, but my liver (probably because of the > fluconazole) and my kidneys (probably the mino) are not too happy with > it, and in my recent bloodwork urea was slightly out of spec as well > as bilirubin. Guest guest
Penny, Thanks for the feedback and advice. I completely agree with you on requirement of regular liver tests and kidney function tests, especially while introducing new meds. Do you know any way of supporting the kidneys apart from all normal things, such as healthy lifestyle, lots of rest, lots of water etc.? Anyone else know if either plaquenil and clarithromycine are a bit hard on the kidneys? Thanks in advance.
