Guest guest
Hi there, I didn't mean to scare you, (but sure can understand it as frightening information). The Better Brain Book recommends that all adults concerned about brain function have four tests, and Homocysteine is one of them. The others are: C-Reactive Protein Lipid Peroxide/Oxidative Stress Profile ApoE Genotype testing. The thrust is when you have these results, you can gage your current status and relative risk for neurological problems, and act to protect yourself now for the future. He recommends supplements with amounts based on the tests and a questionnaire depending on what " tier " you fall into. Then there are treatment/supplement plans for those with specific neurological diseases. He uses glutathione and hyperbaric oxygen for these patient groups extensively. I say all this to allay your fears some. We get these " bad " test results and sometimes feel helpless about them. His thought is you can use the tests to help you -- that knowledge gives you an edge even if the knowledge itself is scary. On homocysteine he really is encouraging, it should resolve in a month or two with the right B vitamins. He recommends testing again after two months of supplementing. If it is still high, then add Trimethylglycine (TMG) 500 mg, up Folic Acid to 1200 mg daily, and up B6 to 100 mg daily, and give it another two months. He recommends a B complex for all groups that includes B1 (thiamine), B3 (niacin), B6 (pyridoxine), Folic acid and B12. I've had all the tests listed -- and I'm in the highest risk group presented. It scared me at first, but now I feel more in control and have the tangible data to track over time. I understand what the results mean. Hopefully, I'll see the numbers improve where they can. If not, I'll know where to focus my efforts. Better than worrying aimlessly, I think. Hope this helps a little! Jess
