Guest guest
That's definitely true. There was a public scandal in the supermarkets when I lived in North Carolina. I think it was the Winn Dixie chain that was the worst although there were others exposed as well. Some national news program took in hidden cameras and showed them relabeling out-of-date chicken and repackaging it with new expiration dates. It created quite the brouha-ha-ha. I guess expiration dates are not required by the FDA, so they weren't necessarily breaking the law. What was more of a concern is that they'd also bleach the chicken or freeze it then unfreeze it and sell it as " fresh " . penny > FWIW, several years ago when I was still buying poultry at the > supermarket, I bought some chicken on sale. Guest guest
ON the flip side of the meat scandals, I was very impressed (and hope that the policy continues), when Macs announced some time back that they would be purchasing no more hormone fed beef. That has to have a major impact on the beef industry considering how much meet Macs buys. penny > > That is just plain " FOWL " !!
Guest guest
Some of these big chains are BIG enough, with enough volume sold to force changes in the beef and chicken industry.. just lucky they're going the right way with it.. although they're probably thinking about avoidance of law suits- and not doing it for 'health'er se.
