Add T4 but not levoxyl?

Hello--My last test results have my free T3 in the upper quartile,

and free T4 a little below half. I have been here before. Both

times the doc (not the one I'm currently using) added levoxyl to the

mix. I lost hair, gained weight, and got grumpier. I've been off

the levoxyl since around May last year, and I'm seeing lots hair

about 1 1/2 " long sticking through the rest of my hair. This is the

same exact thing that happened last time. I think I need T4 because

it releived some symptoms including reeeeeally sore feet. Some days

I can't even stand to cook dinner they are so sore! When I stand up

all day, they hurt bad for the next two days or so. This was gone

on levoxyl, but so was my hair. Dr G says the cause of the foot

issue (and my aches) is rheumatoid arthritis, but the cortef he is

giving me for it only helps my feet a little, and I look like the

Sta-Puft Marshmallow! (I already did, but now there is no mistaking

it!) I think the T4 needs to go up, but what would I take?

Synthroid? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

I would never have dreamed it!----I didn't know that this substance, croscarmellose, is related to sulpha. I've known that I was allergic to Sulpha drugs (antibiotics) for yrs now! OMG, how can they even suggest that any of these things is a "generic" or copy of the other one. Some persons stand to die because of their ignorance. Who knows, there is the strong possibility that this is at least 50% of the reason why many of us can't take ANY of the T4 meds, especially if they have wrung-out adrenals, i.e., allergies out the kazoo. I think that many have unsuspected allergies to myriads of things, but, if you ask them, they'll say that they have no allergies because they only recognize allergic symptoms as being in the nose, throat, ears, and lungs, not as lethargy, muscle and joint pains, dizziness, brain fog, etc....These are some of the major symptoms of an ongoing allergic reaction, and most of us allergic people can't even begin to guess what all we're allergic to. The doctor gives antihistamines for a runny nose, sneezing, etc...but noone ever thinks of these other things as being allergic reactions. As my thyroid condition began to get worse, I found that I had little or no tolerance for foods, drugs, and many things that didn't even affect me just 5 yrs ago. Stupid things, like the things that I ate just 2 yrs ago, like bananas, watermelon, many OTC things, and antibiotics, etc....now they're all like poison to me. We may be getting the T4 in these meds that we need, but still slowly poisoning ourselves with the other things that are in them.

Tx

Re: Add T4 but not levoxyl?

I really like Unithroid. I take it along with my Armour. Right now, I am taking some Unithroid that is past its stated expiration date. It is fine . . . .so far. . . .

It is also sold as generic "levothyroxine" from Lannett, not to be confused with the generic from Mylan (Levo-T) which claims to be "equivalent to Unithroid," but is not.

Another choice would be the new version of Levothroid, made for Forest by LLoyd's, a major purveyor of veterinary drugs. . . . .LOL!

It seems to me that the FDA approved still another levothyroxine, but I have yet to hear of it being on the shelves of your local Walgreens, nor can I remember the name.

Levoxyl contains croscarmellose which contains sulphur. Some folks cannot tolerate it.

Some folks do better on $ynthroid.

CVS carries Unithroid. Their have good prices on internet purchases. What you would pay in their local store may be higher. Do shop around for the best prices while you are calling about availability.

My hair has stopped falling since I went off of all synthetic T4 meds. For

the last 4-6 wks I haven't shed any hair. I'm still thinking that it's an

unusual allergic reaction to fillers of some sort. I've pinpointed 3

ingredients so far. The sulpha one Jan was talking about, povidone, and the

acacia, which is in $ynthroid, and many others. These ingredients are also

in many OTC things, which complicates this picture even more. I'm thinking

that I need to win the lottery to have all this testing done (allergies).
