Guest guest
Welcome and Ayla! I am glad that you have finally posted! I would think that it is a little early to find out if there would be any delays. I would suggest that you find out about Early Intervention just to make sure that she gets a head start on motor skills. It sounds like she is doing fine! Usually, if a person is going to have physical features of Ds, they would show those features at birth. If she is not showing any features, I would think she would not show them later. Other than she could have fine hair. Enjoy your baby! I know it can be hard, because you are waiting for some sign to arise that shows a problem. Take one day at a time, and enjoy the day! Treat her as she has no disabilities, and chances are, she will not have any disabilities! She has a very low percent, and although studies have not totally proven that percent matters, it stands to reason that the fewer cells present would cause less problems to arise. Please continue to post and let us know how she is doing! We love to hear all the great things are kids are accomplishing! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! I joined the group when I was about 5 months pregnant I think... I haven't really posted at all, I've just been reading everyone else's and learning all that I can. I learned through a Triple Screen and an amnio that Ayla might be affected, but they were concerned that it might just be the placenta producing these cells with an extra chromosome, so they waited until she was born to test her blood. They tested 51 cells and 49 had 46 chromosomes, and 2 had the extra 21st chromosome (less than 2%). The doctor and nurses all said that if I had not undergone this prenatal screening, they would not have detected it at birth, and possibly not detected it at all. But as a concerned mother, I keep looking for little things and asking myself all the time if there's anything " different " . Well, I've yet to find anything, and my question is, would I necessarily be able to tell at this age? I mean, I know she can't walk and talk yet... but she has no physical features and is progressing well with milestones so far. Would I be able to tell at this age if she was going to have any physical features? Is there any things I could look for that might be an indication of a delay? If anyone can answer my questions I would really appreciate it. Take care, , mother to Ayla, 2 mos. P.S. I looked at the Photo Island website and I just wanted to say that everyone's children are all unique and beautiful! --------------------------------- Post your free ad now! Yahoo!
