Guest guest
Laurie, If you could name a few movies from the past that you really liked, it would help in choosing some you that would suit your taste. I am not too much of a movie fan, but have a son and a daughter who are avid movie goers and have good but very different tastes. If I knew some from the past that you like, I could get whichever had tastes nearest to yours to make up a list of movies they thought you would like. W OT movies I dont get to the movies anymore and i hardly ever rent because i dont know what to rent. I dont like senseless violence movies or sexist movies. I love a complicated plot, wry humor, intelligence in the plot, a little romance, compassion for our fellow human being, etc... so if anyone has movie suggestions, i'm for it. i trust your guys judgement better than the guys in the video store. ps. steve any update on the movie? laurie
Guest guest
" Simon Birch " is a sweet, memorable movie that I think most people would like. I enjoyed " Eat, Driink, Man, Woman " . An older film about a Japannese family, about a father trying to hold his family together after the mother died and his daughters are getting old enough to go out on their own. Great movie but some people won't care for the English subtitles. Did you see " A Beautiful Life " ? While it mostly takes place in a Nazi camp, it's not gory and it's an amazing film, though sad, of course, with heartwarming moments. Then there is " A Beautiful Mind " based on a real-life man named Nash who was brillant but had a mental disorder. These easily come to mind. I'll give it some thought and come up with others. Guest guest
i dont mind subtitles at all. and if you like those types of movies, see if you can find King of Masks. It's a chinese movie about a man wanting a son to continue his trade. i havent seen Simon Birch or Eat Drink... i saw Beautiful life & beautiful mind. i liked those. i'm not into any sad movies at the moment though. i'm trying to think of my most favorite movies and i'm having a hard time. because i cant remember names or titles very well and i havent seen hardly any movies in the past 5 years. i like the pixar & dreamworks movies. finding forester & good will hunting. i like most of the tom hanks movies and most sean connery movies. i want to go see Lady in the Water even though it looks a bit scarey. the reviews are pretty good and they said there's no weird twist at the end like the writers other movies. does anyone know of a free website that lists movies adn when they were released? laurie > > I dont get to the movies anymore and i hardly ever rent because i dont > > know what to rent. > > > > I dont like senseless violence movies or sexist movies. Guest guest
i really cant think of a list of movies. my husband and i rented a whole slew of movies one month a while ago and i dont remember really liking anything but Pride & Prejudice. Must like Dogs wasnt too bad. Good will hunting, finding forester, the harry potter movies, lord of the rings. I like the Pixar & Dreamworks movies. I actually saw Corpse Bride and that was kinda fun. I like all kinds of movies as long as they are well done. I didnt like the Red Violin very much though. I wasnt that impressed with Lemony Snickits Series of Unfortunate Events but it was interesting. All I watch these days is Bob the Builder & thomas the Tank Engine. with the occasional Blues Clues & Lilo & Stitch or Clifford. gotta run -laurie > > Laurie, If you could name a few movies from the past that you really liked, it would help in choosing some you that would suit your taste. Guest guest
Thanks for the recommendation, Laurie. I'll put it on my list. Here's a site you may like: http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg & sql=21:avg/info_pages/avg_qbrowse.html I never can remember titles when I need them, lol. On this site you can look at movies by genre. Be sure to scroll down if you don't see the list of movies. Re: Pixar, with your son, I'm thinking you've seen " finding Nemo " (many times), lol. I so enjoyed that movie. Also the second Toy Story movie. I liked it better than the first. Another one that is similar is " At First Sight " . It is based on a true story about a man who was blind from infancy but whose sight is restored when he is an adult. It discusses how the mind works, how we process information and a lot about how we view people with handicaps. Mona

Guest guest
Is this it Della? I havent seen it, i'll have to put it on my list. One Ordinary Woman, One Extraordinary Journey (2004) " One Ordinary Woman, One Extraordinary Journey " is a unique and compelling documentary about the heart and sheer determination of a single mother, Ponder, who overcame, poverty, spousal abuse, homelessness and gang violence to successfully raise eight children in the tough inner city of Chicago and guide each of them to the best educational institutions in America. Her stunning, and at times humorous, story is told through the words of her children, friends, admirers and Mother Ponder, herself, as they all come to grips with 's final debilitating battle with lung cancer. It is the ultimate story of triumph and love; a reality tale of one woman's philosophy about life and her dedication to her family and community. Guest guest
Who will love my children, A TV movie? 'Who Will Love My Children?'' Let's give this one three, or maybe even three-and-ahalf handkerchiefs. Ann-Margret, the glamorous entertainer, who has already demonstrated her impressive acting talents in a few theatrical-release films, does a memorable turn. She plays Lucille Fray, a woman who discovered, in the early 1950's, that she had terminal cancer and then resolved to find new homes for each of her 10 children. The story is ''inspired'' by a true incident. A preface notes, with typical ambiguity, that the dramatization, written by Bortman, is based on ''certain events in the life of Lucille Fray.'' In a neat marketing ploy, the now grown children will appear on ABC's ''That's Incredible!'' series, which immediately precedes the film. Mrs. Fray's life is clearly not easy. The family lives on an outof-the-way Iowa tract of land in an extremely modest wood-frame house. Mr. Fray (Frederic Forrest) is an alcoholic and suffers from severe arthritis. He has a hard time holding a job. But the family is close and loving, carefully tended by Mrs. Fray. The older children take care of the younger ones and help with the household chores. When Mrs. Fray learns of her illness, she realizes that her husband will never be able to take care of their large brood. She decides to put them up for adoption herself before the job is left to some uncaring public agency. She explains to the children, using the story of Jesus's death and resurrection, that ''pretty soon I am going to go to heaven, too - sometimes things happen, and we don't have any choice about it.'' With the help of a woman from the American Cancer Society (Cathryn Damon), she begins interviewing prospective parents, making sure that they will agree to let the children keep in touch with one another. Then begins the painful process of the children's visiting their possible homes and eventually leaving on their own. One special problem involves one son, (Robbie Kiger), who is subject to epileptic ''spells.''

Guest guest
i was looking to see if anyone had it for sale and i guess they re-released it on british VHS but not in the U.S. several people said they bought DVD copies burned by people from Britain. People are petitioning for a re-release too. Same with Light in the Piazza. Especially since they just finished up the play. So i signed up with Amazon and they will petition MGM to re-release. Sorry to hear about the re--injury, that so sucks. i put my rib & neck back out a couple weeks ago, and i know it doesnt hurt as bad as your injury. i'm still sick! and the doctors have no ETA on my getting better. My son has it now and he started on a fever today. I have a 100 degree fever that just wont go away. On monday i call the doctor back and tell her how I am doing and she decides the next course of action. laurie > Who will love my children, A TV movie? > > 'Who Will Love My Children?'' Guest guest
Laurie, could it be something in your enviroment making you sick? I'm just trying to think of something that would keep re-infecting you and your son. Your husband travels so isn't there as often, right? So he doesn't get sick from it. Just a thought. Hope it goes away soon Elaine > > i'm still sick! and the doctors have no ETA on my getting better. My > son has it now and he started on a fever today.
