Guest guest
Barb, do you think the place in Vermont mostly tests for the species of Lyme found in New England? I live in the Midwest. I’ve got the tick concealed in a medicine bottle inside a tight zip lock. I’ve already drafted a letter to my daughter’s Pediatrician essentially demanding her treatment. I will fax it in tomorrow. Several years back, I took her in with a classic bulls eye rash & fever post tick bite. He walked in & said that you can’t get Lyme in this part of the country, looked at the rash & whipped out his Rx. pad. He said he had no choice but to treat it. He knows I’m not a knee jerk mother & I think he will pacify me once again with a Rx. for her. I hope. I’ve been the biggest skeptic all along about all of this Lyme stuff. This tick was SOOOOOOOO tiny. I was able to remove it (with a portion of her skin) & I put it on a tissue & looked at it w/a magnifying glass. Definitely a tick. I can certainly see why someone would not be aware they were bitten by a tick. thanks to everyone for their replies. Place the tick in a plastic baggie & mail it to either place. The problem is, it'll be at least a week till you get the results maybe 10 days. So if you think the tick's been feeding over 15 hrs., then I'd be nervous. Barb > I know many of you are a lot more literate about Lyme disease on this web > site than I am. Guest guest
Barb, Was the tick that tested positive sent to Igenex and the two that tested neg sent to the other lab, in Vermont? I notice they mention the CDC and the ALDF as useful links (?!) I happened to be in the middle of writing a mail to our french lyme list re where to have ticks tested. California is a bit far from Europe, MDLs has revamped their website and I am going crazy trying to find the place where they mention their tick testing. Spring is here and I know we will start getting loads of people pulling ticks off them and nowhere to sent them. Guest guest
Barb, http://www.analyticalservices.com/tick_testing/ I just had a closer look at what they say re tick testing for Lyme. What do you think can be made of this : "tick testing for the bacterium responsible for Lyme Disease is a screen and will not definitively rule out or confirm the presence of B. burgdorferi" ? Guest guest
Thanks Barb, I have just posted on Eurolyme re: testing ticks in Europe. I am in contact with a vet lab in Madrid (Spain) and the director has just replied that he can and will test ticks (by PCR). He says he can do Borrelia, Babesia, Ehrlichias, iella burnetii and some Rickettsias. He has tested our blood on several occasions and both Jacques (my husband) and myself managed to get one + each for borrelia (out of 3 tests each, at different times). I don't know why I never thought of him when people ask me where to have ticks tested in Europe and every year quite a few people ask me (or Gill) where to send ticks.
