Sheffield Conference June 2005 - Programme Fourth UK Conference On

Tick – Borne Diseases

17–18 June 2005

Halifax Hall, University of Sheffield, Sheffield, U. K.

CPD applied for

Presented by the Registered Charity, 'Lyme Disease Action'

Lyme Disease Action's first three UK Conferences on Tick-Borne

Diseases, held in 2001, 2003 and 2004, have resulted in a

considerable improvement in the understanding and treatment of many

previously thought to be `mysterious' conditions. Research continues

with increasing pace and urgency. Once again, the registered

charity, Lyme Disease Action, will bring together medical staff,

academic researchers, and patients who suffer from vector-borne

diseases, especially tick-borne diseases, contracted within the UK

and Europe.

The medical and scientific presentations will be made over a two day

period. Practical demonstrations and poster presentations will be on

display in the side room and also form part of the conference. Many

medical professionals, patients and carers are now being given the

opportunity to learn about these debilitating diseases.

The charity Lyme Disease Action (which is concerned with all types

of Lyme borreliosis and other borrelioses that affect the UK and

Europe) has started a Research Appeal and the charity has a Research

Fund already started. The first piece of work we are looking at is a

study aimed at confirming the findings reported at this conference

in patients with a variety of mysterious conditions of unknown

aetiology. Work has already started on this subject at the

University of Sheffield.
