I had three children before I was diagnosed with Hep C--all three children have been tested, as well as my grandchildren, and there is no sign of the disease in any of them. We considered condoms, but my husband decided that if we had already been together for two years at that point, he either had caught it or not, and using them now wasn't going to change things. My new gastro doc told me just yesterday that sexually, the disease transmission rate was app. 1%, 1 1/2% for married couples. ******************************************************* > only ever used illegal drugs once many years ago in > > his teens. (He is now 39). He assures me he used a > > clean needle. Nick keeps saying he is going to die. > Also we are trying to start a family and I am not > sure how this will effect that. Does anyone know? > Unfortunately, once is all it takes--and the layman's idea of a " clean " needle isn't the mediacl world's idea of one! As far as the dying thing, I think almost all heppers go through that at first--after a year and a half since my diagnosis, I still have bouts where I am scared to death. I decided that since I can't go back and change the past (I don't even know if I would have, I was pretty young and stupid!), I just try and educate others about the dangers of using needles for drugs. I was just at my gastro doc this week, and from at least the woman's point of view, he said that the worst thing I could do was get pregnant. No problem--had a hysterectomy 9 years ago--there would have to be a new star in the East for that to happen. You'll have to talk to his doctor about what the odds are of transmission from the father to the unborn child are. ******************************************************* >Just a question, do any of you go through cycles where >you feel terrific and then you feel like sh**? All the time--on the good days, I get as much done as possible, 'cuz I know it won't last (for me) past a couple of days. I think my husband wishes I would lie when he aske, " How are you? " ****************************************************** >Regarding being prone to depression, everyone is. I already suffer from manic depression, and severe anxiety--the disease tends to depress us, the meds depress us further, and the media really aggravates it. All you hear on the news and other programs is how scary it is, and how wideapread, and how deadly--we have a right to be depressed!! Use your sense of humor--when I get my blood drawn, I tell the tech that my blood is thick and green, and will eat into the finish of the counter if it spills. You should see their faces!! After that, Hep C sounds like nothing. ***************************************************** >My husband has this Hep c. He has days when he is >very down but we don't know if it's the hep c or just >him. Yesterday wasn't a good day. Today he is fine. >It drives me nuts but the man has been there for me >for 25 years and I will damn well be there now for >him. I expect him to live forever. Change " husband " to " wife " , and my other half could've written your letter. Please be patient with him--the mood swings are killers, the fatigue is unreal, the weird appetite a pain (I think I'm starving, but by the time I get to the kitchen and get some food, I can only eat a couple of bites!). The rebetron makes me nauseated, causes difficulty swallowing, and my voice has become raspy because of it. Just remember, it's not you--it's the damn disease. ***************************************************** When I saw the new gastro doc, he had blood drawn again--of course--and said that if the levels still haven't changed, that there would be no point in continuing the Rebetron, and he'd discontinue it. Okay. So then what? Do you just wait for the symptoms to change, and live in limbo, analyzing each change in symptoms that occurs? Calling the doc's office with each change, asking if you should be seen again to check it out? What a way to live. But, to be Pollyanna, I AM alive, and that at least gives me a fighting chance! Guest guest
Regarding the chances of catching Hep C sexually: we've been told (and have read in articles, etc.) that married couples' chances of infecting each other are very slim. More of a chance when multiple partners are involved. I don't get it. What do you suppose they are doing differently than married couples? Guest guest
From what I've read, the virus is not in the body fluid, but in any blood that may be caused by more frequent or more active sex. Maybe they don't feel that sex among married partners is as passionate. That's the only thing I can think of. They tell you it is slim, yes slim indeed, it is also slim that you will get it from a transfusion but that slim becomes very real when it happens..I take no chances now. pauline

Guest guest
Well, day one with the trial period of Risperdal..... is STILL tapping, growling and grinding....of course, he's only taking it at night, but didn't see any improvement with sleeping better (or worse, for that matter!). He still continued to do his " behaviors " right up until the time for bed, and today, of course, he's not on it again until tonight, so he's happily tapping, grinding and growling away.....magic wand, take me AWAY!! Guest guest
Although Risperdal can help increase awareness in your child (which often results in a decrease in self-stim behaviors), it will not, in and of itself *end* the stim behaviors. Not that you're doing anything wrong, I just don't want you to hope for a miracle that probably isn't going to happen. What we have found with Andy is that we still have jump ropes and such, but it's much easier to get him involved in what we are doing. And, he's more curious about things and more expressive. MUCH more expressive. I was told that the sleep issue is that it will help them get better sleep at night...Andy is rather " alert " after he gets his and so I questioned the sleep effect. That was the reply I received. Also, it can take upto 4=6 weeks for the drug to show it's full effect. At that point, if the behaviors worsen or are not changed, you must decide if you need to increase the dosage. j

Nor will it end some of the anxiety-based repetitious behavior. We're still having problems with that, and it's driving us crazy. Guest guest
Dear emily and sandra nice to hear from you...as i said, nothing concrete, just a thought... i know you get to read a lot of posts that are a bit gloomy, but there is always hope. the best things about the posts is that you gain knowledge and you get realistic. so now i hope for...dry ears, longer gaps between exams..a smile on the ENT's face when he looks down the microscope etc... and whilst i know that there's always a chance it's going to come back yet again, i count my blessings for the days, weeks or months inbetween. you arent sentenced to a life with countless operations, it might be like that, but it isnt certain. neither do you get any guarantees....but when you read the posts, learn from the experiences, have a thought for those involved, and keep them fingers crossed. and just to prove it isnt all doom....frankie has been clear (fingers very firmly crossed!!) for almost two whole years now....examinations are only every 10 weeks or so now, her scars arent visible and she's still got some hearing. she get's a bit down that she cant go swimming, but she can sing, which she loves, is learning to play the flute (it's gonna take some serious practice!) and enjoys other things instead. she's a happy young girl who takes it all in her 8 yr old stride. and if she can cope so well....then i'm damned sure i can! thoughts, prayers and a smile to you all julie and frankie xxxxxx
Guest guest
Re: Delution of EO´ in natural perfumery From: " Tony Burfield " <tony@...> But Anya hinted at the main point. The average smattering of perfume applied amounts to 0.03ml we are told. Compare this to some of the wilder examples of aromatherapy oil application where large parts of the body are covered in relatively high concentrations of essential oils in carrier - such as those levels advocated by Ron Guba. What are we achieving here? Tony www.TonyBurfield.co.uk Yes, I do something which speaks to that. You probably have already encountered one or more of my posts where I speak of taking droplets of essential oil and putting them on a small square of cotton- the type used for facial cleansing with astringent- and then pin that inside my shirt. I avoid direct contact with the skin of potential sensitizers- and I get to blend these minute amounts. I do not have the aging or the contact of molecules with each other or with a diluent. But I like the effect. What is particularly nice is changing atmospheres- the atmospheric pressure change and change in air currents, constituents and temperature from indoors to outdoors- gives a new burst of fragrance when you pass the doorway. It's lovely. -- L Wakefield, owner and operator of the beastly truck heretik, that refuses to stay between the lines when parking --
Guest guest
Hi Moderator: Thank you for your information. I'm going to mention to my orthopod about dilaudid in the form of the PCA. I would feel better if it were administered that way instead of having to be at the mercy of a nurse for a shot. As for the protein, I have to have protein to keep me alive. Being a gastric bypass patient, I have to have at least 60 grams of protein a day. Right now I have bumped up the protein to three protein drinks a day plus my protein in meals. I only have two more days to go. I am exciting and scared at the same time. Reality set in when the office called to remind me of the time I should be there for surgery. I'm all packed and ready to go. Tomorrow will be a quilt get away from 8 AM to 4 PM, which will be my last for a while. Carole - AKA Thorn Willowweb, AKA Daisy Proudfoot of Standelf. Guest guest
Thanks for the encouragement Betty and . The offer to teach Belly dance was a couple of years back and in a different city. I do want to teach eventually but I have so many obstacles in my way. I also didn't mention that I can't drive (seizures) so I would have to live near the gym. I'm probably moving to Austin soon (I have a job interview Thursday so send positive thoughts and prayers my way please) so I'm trying to find an apartment near a gym. If I get this particular job it might be harder as the company is located on a side of town that doesn't have many gyms because its all college students and they have several free facilties and classes they can attend. I wont give up on it, I just know that now is not the time. LAtely I've been feeling run down and week (I was in the ER on july 4th for a bug gone way bad)and I've been having a difficult time picking the intensity level of my workouts back up. I did Sharon Mann's DVD " The Works " Step and circuit section yesterday along with walking. I did mostly intermediate or begginer options. I'm so broke I wish I had the money to get a few new videos to motivate me. The hundreds I have aren't enough :-) a -- _______________________________________________ Find what you are looking for with the Lycos Yellow Pages http://r.lycos.com/r/yp_emailfooter/http://yellowpages.lycos.com/default.asp?SRC\ =lycos10

Guest guest
Hey a, I don't post much, but I watch the stream go by with interest. My wife and I live in Austin. What kind of job are you going for? If you have questions about Austin, I'll be glad to help in that regard. There are actually lots of small gyms in the University area, and scattered everywhere, but only 2 24hr fitness in Austin proper. A 3rd north in Round Rock. But lots of GOLD's, and CURVES type places. The driving part can be a problem since mass transit here isn't great. Its best in the downtown/U.T./Capitol area. What part of town are you thinking about? You could also look into special transit which is more individualized than the regular buses - they come right to your door and take you where you need to go. I agree with , if you like the thought of teaching belly dancing, go for it! Re: Digest Number 79 Thanks for the encouragement Betty and . Guest guest
Thanks ! I actually attended UT and worked at the State Capitol from 98-00 for a State Senator. I want to get back into politics but I'm desperate for any job right now. My interview is for a relocation firm. Luckily the buses in Austin are far superior to here in San . Not perfect granted, but better. Are you a gym member? Know any going rates? Thanks!! a > Hey a, > > I don't post much, but I watch the stream go by with interest. My wife and > I live in Austin. Guest guest
/Jimd- One of the difficulties Stratton cites about Cpn is that in it's cryptic phase (non-replicating) it infects monocytes and macrophages, " When monocytes and macrophages are infected by Chlamydia, they become debilitated and cannot function properly. " So it's not just that those with weak immune systems get it, but the organism actually weakens immune functioning. In addition, many of those in the percentages Jim cites, while they may not have broad systemic infections which some of us appear to have, may have localized infections such as blood vessels, joints, nerves, and other tissues. Thus you could have an adequate immune system in general, but occult infections in localized tissues which, nonetheless, cause lots of inflammatory damage. The thing which interests me about Stratton's patents are the highly sensitive tests which allow detection for presence of Cpn in all of it's phases, so one can see not only which agents best effect a particular persons strain of Cpn, but also when it is actually cleared. And another thing.... does anyone know any ways to tolerate the nausea and toxic crappiness of Flagyl? It has really helped me, but this last 3day course really knocked me for a loop. Some of it may be the herx, but I think I'm getting sensitive to the flagyl itself. Has anyone experienced this over pulsing cycles? Jim --------- I am only now learning about chlamydia, and how debilitating that infection can be when the immune system is unable to contain it. Thanks for asking a very smart question. > > Does anyone have the percent of people who have lyme in the US or the > best estimate. I have read several places that 50% of 30 year olds > and 80% of 60 year olds have chlamydial infections at least in the US. > I also believe that people with strong imune systems handle this > disease, and most do not even know they have it.
