Good question, I suspect the answer may lie in a couple of related phenomenon's that occur as a result of a competitive 'business developed mind', mixed with another phenomena that follows a period of success. In businesses one is constantly challenged from all sides for position, as a result one develops many strategies of protection. I believe I have seen a number of these used by 'engineer' in the recent past. The other stemming from his own direct experience and others too of sarc, where he had enjoyed a period of upward growth. Not seeing many problems. (Confidence grows quickly.) It was only when he applied the logic " one cure fits all " did all his real problems begin. Thereafter I suspect pride, prejudice, and threat to the dream (going down as the man who worked it all out) led to the events that followed. Yes a shame I do agree. But hey at least there are no more sceptics. bleu
