What happy news! By the time she is grown, we can hope for a reconciliation

of all religions! in her case, the stress shld be on valuing the wisdom of

the Judaic tradition n seeing it as informing the Christian - we need to

remember that Jesus was a Jew n offered to share the wisdom w/the Gentiles.

An evol of the Age of Aries to that of Pisces. We need to honor rather then

reject the spiritual contributions of thepast. A tree that denies its roots

is doomed; n one that denies the common earth from which it springs can never

bear lasting fruit.

Thanks, Alice, for your message. Since was born 2 weeks ago, I have been

more aware of my roots in the Old Testament. In fact I almost feel excited about

them.

I liked what you said about Jesus being a Jew who wanted to share his wisdom

with the Gentiles.

Now I need to study a bit about the evolution of the Age of Aries to the Age of

Pisces. Maybe now is the time for me to really come to grips with " Jungian

Synchronicity in Astrological Signs and Ages. " :)

Love - Sara

Dear Sara,

In Jewish law, a child is the same religion as its mother - so your daughter

is theologically correct. I am Jewish and my husband was raised a

Protestant, although he now calls himself an atheist. We had a civil

marrige, but keep Jewish festivals as well as pagan ones. Graham does not

keep any of his own religious traditions, although we celebrate the holidays

in a secular way (normally involving large amounts of alcohol!!!)

I would say, in general, work out a modus vivendi which suits the individual

couple, be open and honest with your children's questions, and allow them to

develop their own personal spirituality in their own way at their own time.

Last but not least - congratulations!

fa,

Thanks. We are trying to work out a Baptism that will include a Rabbi. I hope

you have some thoughts as I am not sure how to precede.

Sara,

A Reform Rabbi will probably do it, especially if you agree to a

circumcision.

He was circumsized in the hospital. Will that count? had a C section and

was there six days and she and Marc both thought it a good idea to get it done

there.

I'll ask Marc how we go about finding a Reform Rabbi.

Thanks, fa.

This was heartening to me, Frances. Thank you.

Re: a little news

Baptism in Christianity is about beginning a faith journey. Through baptism

the child/adult is invited and welcomed into joining a community of faith.

There is symbolism used for this ritual of inclusion; water, anointing with

oil and laying on of hands to immerse, bless and accept grace for this

journey. Family and friends then welcome the newly baptised by pledging

support, education and nurturing for the faith journey.

It seems to me that there are several points of agreement here if you frame

the baptism in these terms.
