So, how do you like Dr. ? I had my endo today with Blevins and was VERY disappointed.

in the afternoon, and I seemed to notice a little boost in energy from that. She wanted to see the nodules shrink, and after the second sonogram (with no change), she was steering me toward surgery to have my thyroid removed, which I didn’t want to do. So I switched to Dr. Ted (Austin), who is the doctor I am now seeing. I am now

Jan, thanks very much for the info. It's so good to have support with this.

It's interesting that when I felt the worst, before any treatment, my

numbers for the free T's were both above midrange. So you're right--I'll

have to discover what numbers I feel best at. And I will start charting my

results, doses, and symptoms together--great idea. I think if I didn't have

such brain fog, I would have been doing that all along. I'll report on what

I find out in my appt. I am looking forward to that appt. being over--I will

get results from blood tests, sonogram of thyroid, and stomach biopsies and

more info on (benign?) tumor in esophagus.

, so far I have really liked Dr. . He has by far the best

bedside manner of any doctor I have been to in many, many years. I never

feel like he is rushing with me; he's sympathetic; he's responsive when I

ask about things I've learned on this list; and he seems genuinely

interested in me personally and in helping me get well. He has a good

reputation and was recommended to me by numerous people. He kind of

specializes in hormone balancing. I have menopause issues too, and he has

really helped with that. We still have a ways to go with my thyroid stuff,

but I do have multiple issues. He does prescribe Armour. He was the doctor

who started the Hills Fitness Center that included his medical practice. He

has sold that, and his office is down the street, still on Bee Cave Rd. I

like the staff and the office too--it has a relaxing atmosphere. I think

that the fact that he doesn't take lots of insurance (only BCBS) contributes

to that atmosphere--he doesn't have six people who just handle insurance

paperwork, and the focus is not on insurance. I don't have coverage for my

thyroid anyway, so insurance doesn't affect my choice of providers. He

blends conventional and alternative therapies. One friend I referred to him

wasn't really comfortable with the idea of alternatives. Although his

alternative approaches do not seem at all extreme to me (in my case, saliva

testing for daily hormone cycle; Armour; custom hormone cream), that's

something to consider if you're not comfortable with alternatives. Hope this

helps!

It really does, and he is very close to me as well. Luckily I also have

BCBS. I think I will call tomorrow. My endo was a complete bust. I knew

more about PCOS then he did, and when I questioned Armour and actually had

done research- HORRORS!- he got defensive and shut done. He told me I did

not need Armour and there was no such thing as low free T3. Sigh.

<there is no such thing as low T3>

Holy Psychoproctology, Batman! This is one of the core beliefs of TSH-worshipping thyroxinists. It goes into the same category as the following gems of wisdom:

<your TSH is in range. Your symptoms must be from something other that thyroid>

<Armour comes from sheep>

<the TSH is the gold standard>
