Jill how did you get to lay down and change his diaper if I could teach Dylan to do that I wouldnt be so worried about getting him potty trained!!! LOL Diapers at 3 is a pain!!!Dylans casts with tummy cutout have all been tight when standing. But laying down sometimes his tummy area has gaps between him and the cast. Is it still tight on the rib wings? I would be more worried if it were loose on his ribs. Dylans casts do loosen up after awhile but he really beats them up. Lets say he is a very active 3 year old and the casts just make him a little more tougher hes my little Hockey player. He already has half the equipment!Darrell > > From: Krista Sloan <kmsloan18yahoo (DOT) com>> Subject: [infantile_scoliosi s] (unknown)> To: infantile_scoliosis @yahoogroups. com> Date: Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 5:49 PM> > > > > > > > >

> Hi Group,> I have a cast question, my son has the over the shoulder cast from SLC and we are set to have a cast change at the end of this month. Believe it or not, the cast does not seem to be getting too "tight". I almost think that it may be rising up. I was reading to him before nap time and I noticed that he was dipping his chin below the chest portion of the cast and chewing on it!?? I have been weighing him and he is gaining wt, but he also seems thinner, from growing taller? Has this happened to anyone? > > Next question. Jack is 18 months old and as I mentioned it is going to be our first cast change....how did your kids handle the cast coming off....were they sore or weak? I have swimming in the indoor pool at the Crystal Inn on the agenda. How did your kids then react when they were

casted the next day? Just trying to be prepared. One fellow Cast member suggested fun toys and that sounds great. Any other tips? Hope all is well with all of you and your kids. ~Krista > > PS if there are any SLC parents that can prep me with the procedure, I would be most appreciative. >

Hi Jill

Well I guess if not touching then very close to his body shape when laying down and the rib flaps still rigid and holding his rib cage. I know on some of Dylans casts these would become softer over time but they still held their shape and were tight against his rib cage. At various times over three months he would have gaps around the tummy and the cast would look to big. Then the next week he would fill it out again. At the end of 3 months though Dylan has put it through the ringer and we can tell its time for a new one. The only place I really worry about are under his arms. The left side he always seems to be out growing the cast there and it gets really tight. Thats the side we have problems go figure. So I guess if its tight there its doing its job.

How long has his cast been on?

Potty training is a NIGHTMARE DONT DO IT!!!! LOL OK Girls are definatly easier than boys. Try the potty movie that song will drive you nuts! But we will keep trying and "hopefully" tomorrow! lol
