Guest guest Posted March 29, 2005 Report Share Posted March 29, 2005 I'm not suggesting the pathways aren't real, they are.. Quite a bit is known about the Th1 pathway and what initiates it. But not as much is known about TH2 and TLR signalling (initiated by microbes or not.) So.. these pathway 'titles' are discriptive terms regarding what components are present in the body at a particular time. It's generally accepted that TLRs (Toll like receptors- and there are many) contributes to inflammation and signals these pathways and their resultant components. Science differentiates between what is suspected as sterile inflammation (they use RA as an example) and infectious inflammation (pathogen) as the debate goes on as to just what autoimmunity is and what turns THAT on (in Lupus the dominant pathway shifts back and forth). SO what if you have a parasite, and a Gram negative pathogen? DO you have TH1 or TH2 inflammation.. what modulator (blocker or supressor) would you choose? This is fledgling (immune) science IMO...
